Val Kilmer's Pecos River Ranch B&B Plans Thwarted by Neighbors?

2003 and 2005 Remarks Come Back to Haunt Tombstone Star

Actor Val Kilmer wants to convert his 6,000 Pecos River Ranch in New Mexico into a luxury bed and breakfast. However, his plans are being thwarted by angry citizens who haven't forgotten some disparaging remarks the BatmanForever actor was quoted by print magazines as saying about the crime rate and citizenry of his county, as well as Vietnam Veterans.

According to the New York Daily News, Kilmer asserted that his "neighborhood" was the "homicide capital of the Southwest." and that "80 percent of the people in my county are drunk" back in a 2003 interview with Rolling Stone. Two years later, Kilmer made comments to another magazine about Vietnam Veterans, insinuating that they were poor criminals who just couldn't get a college scholarship. The actor, born in 1959, would have been been only about 10 years old during the height of the Vietnam Conflict.

Santa Fe residents and veterans demanded an apology from the actor when he applied for the permits to open a Bed and Breakfast at his ranch. Though an apology is not needed to go through the permit process, one would go a long way toward smoothing the ruffled feathers of those who were offended by the actor's comments a few years ago. The actor is scheduled to appear Wednesday to plead his case to the county he dissed in 2003.

Kilmer has tried to sell his Pecos River Ranch for more than one year

The Wall Street Journal reported in April 2009 that Val Kilmer had listed his Pecos River Ranch for sale for the tidy sum of $33 Million. According to Santafereal-estate.com, Kilmer's ranch was re-listed
for sale in a smaller parcel - 820 acres - for a cool $5.9 million. The last update for the Pecos River Ranch listing was May 14, 2010.

The Pecos River Ranch consists of a 4 bedroom, 5,600 square foot log cabin house, complete with two guest houses. Considering that the Kilmer did not secure a buyer for his lush ranch, either in whole or by selling a portion thereof, which includes an enviable trout fishing stream, running a bed and breakfast on the 6,000 acre is a sound business decision.

How many of those neighbors looked Val in the face and demanded an apology. I can't say if he is right or wrong since I didn't hear what he said. I sure as hell wouldn't believe anything the obamamedia reported. Anyone who believes anything they see in print should realize that the accusers have an ax to grind and a dollar to make. Otherwise they wouldn't waste their time spreading the manure.

I thought this was supposed to be a free country..Val;s comments are his opinion and an opinion is neither right or wrong..Holding him hostage for a permit is soooo childish....get over it..

The Iceman comith: Val must think he is still playing in Top Gun. It is easy to throw stones at people you can't see. But Vets are kind "in your face" type of folks. Good luck with the B&B, you are going to need it.

Personally I don't like his style or "acting" abilities nor do I like any Holloywood actor that makes their millions from EVERYBODY and then craps on the ones that don't "think" the way they do, ie. Tom Cruise, George (lets destroy America) Clooney, and almost all the rest.

I think it would good if Mr. Kilmer clarified what was meant by the Vietnam comments. This was the first I had ever heard of it and thought it was provocative if nothing else. I have a lot of friends and family who served in Vietnam, all went to college before or after their tours, none would have ever considered a deferment from service. As I write this I am in Baghdad on my third tour, as an activated reservist. I have served 25yrs all part of the volunteer force. It’s easy to generalize groups of veterans if you don’t really know any. You can usually find them all around you and they are not the dregs of our society but the people who make everything work. We do all the hard stuff, not the pretend stuff.

I am an old veteran and I don't think I could afford to even visit his ranch But, I think everyone should just leave him alone! He is an excellent actor and I would love to meet him one day. I am in Tucson and I do not even have a car so I doubt I could ever go to New Mexico. Hang in there Val and ignore the ignorance.
