What type of card holder should you create to hold all of those precious memories? Your imagination is your limit, but, to get you started, here is an idea.
Shoe Box Card Holder
If you have an empty shoe box around the house, you can put it to use by storing all those cards you received.
Materials Needed
Shoe Box
Paper or other materials to cover the box
Glue (hot glue and regular glue)
Double sided tape
Glitter and/or glitter paint
Magazines
Scissors
Coloring Tools
There are a few options available to you when it comes to covering the box. Let's take a look at what you can use.
You can choose a gift wrapping paper with a Valentine's theme; or you may use the paper from a newspaper roll that you will then decorate (ask your local newspaper company for a left over roll - many times they gladly give you a roll at no charge).
You can also use construction paper, alternating the Valentine's colors (red, pink, white) or by using one basic color and decorating with the others. Fabric is also an alternative way to cover the box, and so is aluminum foil.
Whichever material you choose for your box covering, you need to make sure that you will have enough to cover the outsides of the box and lid, plus a little bit extra to fold and secure the edges inside.
If you are using paper or aluminum foil, you can use double sided tape to secure those edges. If, however, you have chosen fabric, you will need to use hot glue.
Once the covering is in place, it is time to decorate it. You may choose to decorate the box and lid, or you may choose to decorate just the lid.
If you have used wrapping paper with a Valentine's theme or a fabric with a pattern, you may want to accent parts of the designs with glitter paint. Make sure that the paint is completely dry before you start handling the box.
If you have used plain white or off white paper, you can draw Valentine's sketches and then color them or you can glue cut-out Valentine's pictures, from magazines, to the box and/or lid.
You may also choose to use construction paper to cut out hearts and flowers you can then secure on the box and lid.
If you would rather decorate with a simple design, you can choose to draw a heart or flower, trace it with regular glue, and then sprinkle glitter on it. Let it dry completely and then remove the excess glitter by shaking the box and lid.
As you create your Valentine's card holder, remember that the most important thing of all is to have fun with it. The finished product will bring you satisfaction, but getting there is what will make it memorable.
