Valentine Gifts for Him

Rebecca Green
On the days leading up to Valentine's Day, you can always see men out buying roses, candies and little stuffed animals for their other half - be it a wife, girlfriend or even just a close family member. While these little surprises are perfect for women, not many men would be too keen on getting a little toy from their lady. So now that leaves the question: what do you get a guy for Valentine's Day? It can be really stressful to want to find something for your guy and not have a clue. But do not fear, there may be help for you yet - with plenty of time to spare. I went around asking a few men what they'd like to get on Valentine's Day and here are some of the more popular responses I received.

Dinner out

I was rather amazed to hear most guys respond to this one with all seriousness. Some even stated dinner out with the lady paying. Sort of a reversal of roles in that aspect. It seems traditional for the gentleman to pay, however, I can understand a guy wanting to go out and for once not worry about a bill. Yes, some guys pay every single time, ladies. I know in my past I've felt bad but never once would he let me pay. So it's understandable that a guy wouldn't mind a night out on her on a special day. After all, the day isn't just for her when you think about it. The day just seems more catered to ladies with hearts and flowers along with beautiful romantic shades of colors more appealing to women. You could say going dutch would be a good idea, but doesn't that seem a lil tacky? Take it this way, ladies. If he buys you flowers and candy, the least you can do is take him out to dinner, right? After all, a way to a man's heart is through his stomach - or so I've been told.

Cards

This one I was shocked to hear. Guys expecting cards with money in them to get what they want. But sure enough, this was quite a response. Not only did they suggest money in cards (Not a large amount, merely twenty dollars) they also suggested gift cards to their favorite store. I can see this being an option if you honestly don't know what to get someone, however, the idea seems rather impersonal. After all, a guy gets you something nice then and there. I don't know, maybe I feel cards and money are a 'cheap' way out of finding something, but, guys did suggest it. Now comes the question of 'what kind of store gift card?' to get. This involves you paying attention to his interests. Is he into little gadgets or maybe big on video games? These can both be big helps if you don't know what kind of game he would want or what little doohickey would make him grin. While I wouldn't suggest it first, I'd use this as a last option if nothing else comes to mind.

Home Made Surprises

When I was inquiring about cards to men, a few even piqued my interest when stating they preferred a girl make them something instead of going out and spending a lot of money. They stated small things, perhaps a scrapbook with memories of their relationship - along with room to obviously add onto the indefinite future. These gifts do cost a little money to aquire materials, but the most spent is time in making these perfect for your guy. As a side note, my valentine is getting a painting that I made of one of his favorite sports teams - so go crazy. Use your imagination and don't be afraid to get messy. When he has a one of a kind by you then he'll know how hard you worked on this gift and know without a doubt you love and appreciate him.

Cologne

I think guys want every chance to avoid paying for costly Cologne. Honestly. It seems to be a multi-functional gift idea. So why not treat your guy to a small bottle of his (and hopefully your) favorite cologne. After all, if he's smelling good he might be more inclined to go out in public wearing it more often. This can be quite promising. Not to mention being able to spray a little of his scent on something you own to carry a bit of him with you is something you can do if you get him cologne. No guy, I promise you this, will think you're making a big deal about his 'odor' so don't go into this option thinking that. Guys like to smell good and girls love a guy that smells irresistable. I wouldn't urge you to go out of your way and buy the largest quantity of his scent that you can. Just a small bottle so that he can carry it with him in case of an emergency spritz. Yes, just like girls, guys DO carry cologne with them.

Remember, girls, that Valentine's Day isn't about getting the most expensive or the best. It's about showing you love someone. There is no monetary value on that and there never will be. If all else fails and you haven't money to do anything, offer him a long, relaxing massage. Sure you have to work, but in the end he'll appreciate it and spoil you.
