Invitations to Your Valentine Bash
Why not do something out of the ordinary and send out invitations of small heart shaped boxes of chocolate? You can personalize them by cutting out paper hearts, writing your invitations on them and pasting them on the lids of the boxes.
A less expensive alternative is to cut cardboard hearts, decorate them with Cupid's arrows, birds or flowers and gild the edges. Write out the invitations on them and send them out in envelopes.
Dress Code For Lovers
Suggest that guests wear red and white, the colours of Valentine and hearts in some form in their clothes or accessories. You could then offer a prize for the guest wearing the most number of hearts. A more exciting dress code could be guests dressed up as famous lovers - like Romeo and Juliet, Antony and Cleopatra, Laila and Majnu, Samson and Delilah.
You could give a prize to the most authentic looking couple. This could really be fun especially if Romeo turns up to find there's no Juliet and you have odd couples.
Valentine Party Decor
As for the décor for your Valentine party, there is a lot you could do. Fill up balloons with blank pieces of paper except one which says "You're the Lucky Valentine". The guest who gets this one is the winner. Tie ribbons to the balloons and let them float up to the ceiling and at the end of the celebration, your guests can pull them down and have a blast stomping on them.
You could hang red, white and pink streamers from the ceiling. Decorate the walls with Cupid's arrows made from aluminum foil.
Get yourself an inexpensive plastic tablecloth and draw hearts on it with markers or crayons. You could create heart shaped cardboard placemats too and write the names of your guests on them with glitter. Hey, even your sandwiches could be cut into heart shapes!
Creating Romance
A great way to break the ice between guests and perhaps get some romances going is to create badges with only half a motif and let your guests pick one as they arrive. (Remember to keep the guy badges separate from the girl badges or you'll end up pairing two men!) Each guest can then find the other half of the motif with someone else and you've got couples!
Here's wishing you a Valentine Blast!
