Valentine, Received

S. M. Bendock
My heart cries,

tears of joy streaming together

with tears of empathetic sadness.

At last it has arrived,

this proof you love me,

this confirmation that my feelings are returned.

I could sing, I could dance,

surely all witnesses have long since declared

my sanity has departed on this day.

So long I have waited,

waited less than patiently,

as you hesitated over the decision to send this.

And the other before you ...

what of the others before you?

Can I tell you I noticed them not?

Not until now,

your much awaited valentine,

hope no longer lost, has shown me ...

The small pile,

tossed aside, each, mere moments

after discovering it was not my redemption.

My heart,

too warmed by you to be so cold,

does wonder what lies there, discarded.

And most sincerely weeps,

for any of those cast aside

who might have felt for me as I do for you.

Ah, *stretch*, a life of ease elludes me. I love people, music, reading, writing, football, and nature. I love to debate and can usually see both sides of any topic.  View profile
