Valentine Scarf: Instructions for This Easy, No-Sew Fleece Scarf
Keep Your Loved One Warm and Thinking of You Throughout the Winter and Spring
This is an easy project. It is a cute way to say "Happy Valentine". It takes about 3 hours to make. To make your heart pattern, fold the square of newspaper in half. With the folded half to your right (if you're right-handed), measure 11/2 in down from top of folded side. Begin cutting at this mark and cut up to top of paper, gradually rounding off to side, round side and gradually curving to mid bottom. Open to see heart pattern.
With fleece, cut 13, 12x6 inch rectangles. Fold the rectangle in half to make a 6x6 inch square. Pin the heart pattern onto the doubled square of fleece with the pointed part of heart at the folded edge of fleece. Pin through all thickness.
To cut, start at one inch to the side of the point of the heart. Follow the pattern around the heart to end at one inch on the other side of the point of the heart. Remove the pins and pattern. If you open the fleece, you should find two joined hearts. Make 13 of these. With fleece hearts closed, make small slit with scissors in the top middle of hearts (about 1 inch below top middle). Do this in 10 of the hearts. In one make a slit in the top middle and bottom middle of heart. This will be the center of the scarf. Leave other two intact for now.
To make chain, take heart with slit at top and bottom (center heart), then thread an opened fleece heart through slit in doubled fleece hearts to midway, then fold this heart back over to meet its joined heart. Do the same at bottom of the center heart. Now, you should have 8 hearts with slits left. Chain four on each side. Chain hearts with no slits at each end of scarf. To close scarf, cut two small slits into both humps of the end hearts. Thread a ½ inch by 10 inch piece of fleece through slit stopping midway and tie. Do this in all slits to make fringe on both sides of scarf.
If fringe is not your thing, thread ½ inch by 4 inch piece of fleece through slit and tie knots on both sides, cut excess close to making rosettes at end of scarf.
