Valentine's Day Again

Devrie Wise
It's six in the evening,
so I squeeze myself
back home from work,
and I'm pregnant,
hungry, sweaty, tired.

My feet are scaly fat potatoes,
to which you gently
caress while probing my mind
for clues to the conspiracy
or insight on all five universes.

You've cleaned my old apartment,
and offer a friendly game
of chess to my curious daughter,
while I roll to the old refigerator
looking for provolone cheese.

It's Valentine's Day.

Why didn't you buy me Provolone?
