Valentine's Day Blues Songlist 2011

Buddy Reed
1. Radiohead - Creep

This is the best song I could play to convey how I feel on Valentine's Day. I am a casualty in the war of love, not dead but MIA in the field of awkwardness. Twenty-eight years old, and I still feel awkward around girls.

2. Gnarls Barkley - Who Cares?

"Everybody is somebody. Everybody wants to be somebody else." I feel like I am a nobody sometimes. It hurts. It's my own fault. I get lost, not knowing what to say when the time comes and misreading cues that may even be non-existent... ...but Who Cares?

3. Maroon 5 - Shiver

So I think I don't know what to say or do; that's when I start searching for a new way into the heart of another. This song reminds me of how I feel when I have a crush on someone. It's a good feeling. One which I wish I could hold onto for ever. A need to be recognized, noticed, and appreciated.

4. Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb

This one is for the feeling of loneliness that stings like a sharp pain in your soul. If only I could temporarily remove my soul so that the feeling of loneliness could be ignored. Furthermore, with years in succession of being alone; I too have become comfortably numb to the persuasions of the Hallmark-esque companies that perpetuate this holiday. "When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse" of what love is but as I age I struggle to remember the sensation. I almost feel as though I have forgotten how to re-tap that energy flow.

5. Replicants - Silly Little Love Songs

I know that this is a cover of a Paul McCartney song but but the darker tones better fit the mood of what I have to say. Stop rubbing your relationships in my face. I don't care; in all honesty. I know, that's not what the song is about Mr. Reed, but these are the images, or rather the ideas, and my thoughts when I hear this song compounded with what I portray as a hatred for this holiday.

6. Chromeo - Bonafied Lovin'

What it really is, is a desire to show some bonafide lovin'. I know it sounds cheesy but the song outright says it. Not that I would split a couple up but there are some girls out there who may be potential lovers in it's simplest form. I'm a hopeless romantic is what it boils down to. I do my best to hide it and I don't even know why.

7. Frank Sinatra - Bang Bang (She Shot Me Down)

This one is for all the ladies that say no without giving a poor little white boy a chance. For past lovers who promised endless love and perverted the meaning so that they were not telling a lie. You broke my heart. It is also for the fear that I will die alone, a bitter, unloved old man. The fear that drives me forward.

8. The Beatles - Hey Jude

My reminder that love comes to those who wait. Wait is what I must do but I must also put myself out there. I must be noticed to be loved. It seems a fitting end to the thought process. Continue Forth. Life is good and love will come. If it does not then remember your family is there for you. Cherish them and love them for they love and cherish you.
