First, make some sugar cookie dough. You will need:
1 and one half cup butter
1 cup white sugar
1 half cup brown sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
4 and one quarter cups all-purpose flour
1 and one half tsp. baking powder
1 half teaspoon salt
In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter, white sugar and brown sugar. Add the eggs and vanilla and mix together well. Add the flour, baking powder and salt and blend in.
Gather your other utensils which include baking sheets lined with aluminum foil, a rolling pin, a knife, waxed paper, a flower-shaped cookie cutter, a spatula, and a cooling rack.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Place the sugar cookie dough on a baking sheet, then pat it and roll it out with the rolling pin until it is about one quarter inch thick. With the knife, cut out a large ring (about 13 inches by 6 inches).
Place the rest of the dough on a piece of waxed paper and roll it out until it is about one-quarter inch think. Use the flower-shaped cookie cutter to cut out about 15 flowers. Shape about 10 leaves with the knife. Use the spatula to transfer all the leaves and flowers to another baking sheet. To make them glittery, add some colored sugar sprinkles.
Now bake the ring and flower pieces for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden. The ring will take longer to bake than the flowers. Take all the pieces from the oven and let the ring cool on the baking sheet. After the flowers and leaves have cooled for about 2 minutes, use the spatula to transfer to them to the cooling rack.
When all the pieces have cooled, use the table knife to spread icing on the backs of the flowers and leaves. To make icing combine 2 cups icing sugar, 1 egg white, 1 quarter tsp. cream of tartar, and 1 and one half tsp. warm water. Beat with a mixer for 8 to 10 minutes. Then glue the flowers and leaves onto the ring.
If you want to hang the wreath, you can glue the cookie ring to a ring of heavy cardboard and loop some ribbon on it.
Give the cookie flower wreath to someone you love and enjoy some cookies together for Valentine's Day.
