Valentine's Day Craft for Kids: Handprint Valentines

Tracing and Cutting Your Way to Valentine's Day Fun

I thought of a great Valentine's Day craft for kids complete with a poem to not only keep them busy, but use as classroom Valentines for their classroom Valentines Day parties at school. It's a Valentine's handprint that they construct by tracing their own hand and then decorating with candy conversation hearts placed at the fingertips representing their fingernails. It turns out really cute and the best part is it's a homemade Valentine to pass around the classroom.

Supplies
Red Poster board, or construction paper
Pencil, pen or thin markers
Candy conversation hearts
Glue
Type writer, or computer (for typing the poem that goes on the hand)

Instructions

First cut out a rectangular piece of white construction paper or printing paper for either writing or typing your Valentine's poem on. Next, either print with your markers, or type this catchy phrase onto the paper: "This special handprint, made lovingly by me, isn't only a handprint as you can plainly see. I especially made it for this special Valentine's day, to send you lots of hugs and kisses on this Valentine's Day"

The next step is to have the kids place their hands on the construction paper or poster board and trace along it. Once that's done it's time to cut out the hand.

Invite the kids to then pick the candy conversation hearts that they'd like to use to glue onto all of the fingernails on their hand, then go ahead and glue those onto each finger.

They could add some yarn and beads to represent a bracelet on the wrist just for an additional decoration.

Last, glue the poem on and your good to go!

These are great Valentine classroom pass outs for the Valentine's parties at school. Homemade is always the best and all the kids will love having the option of eating the fingernails off of their Valentine hand! Don't forget to make a few more for all of the family members too. We can't leave out family! They'll appreciate having the hands of their own family near them for Valentine's Day.
