Valentine's Day Craft: Pom Pom Heart Critter
Make a Darling Little Pom Pom Critter to Give as a Gift on Valentine's Day!
You could also use these critters as place cards. All you need to do is stick a little flag in them with your guests names on the flag and place them near your dinner plates. You can make a simple flag by gluing a piece of paper on a toothpick. Then just tuck the toothpick into the pom pom and you have a nice place card that can also be given away as a party favor when the party is over!
To make a pom pom heart critter, you will need two matching pom poms for the body, various size heart cut outs, two circle cut outs, wiggle eyes, and a tiny pom pom or bead for a nose. You will also need glue. You can use a white tacky glue, or a hot glue gun.
To get an idea of what your little pom pom heart critter can look like, please click here to see an image. Viewing the image will help you know where to glue the pieces. Start by gluing two matching pom poms together, one on top of the other. You can use any size pom poms. The bigger the pom poms, the bigger the critter!
Once you have the pom poms glued together, it's time to glue on the other pieces. You will need one big heart for the feet, two smaller hearts for the ears, another heart for the belly, and a smaller heart for the face. Then you can glue on two small circles or hearts for the hands (see this image for how you can use hearts for the hands). Glue on the eyes and the nose and you are done!
As for the materials for the heart shapes, you can use anything you like. You can buy foam hearts that are already cut out for you. Or you can buy craft foam and cut out the hearts yourself. You can also use craft felt or construction paper for the heart shapes.
In a pinch, if you don't have pom poms, you can always use two cotton balls. You can buy pink cotton balls (if your store carries them) or you can go ahead and just use white. A white cotton ball critter will look Valentine-ish once you glue on the pink and red hearts. Anyone who receives a cotton ball critter will think it's just as cute as its pom pom cousin.
