Valentine's Day Crafts

Ann Marie
As Valentine's Day draws near you kids will be coming home from school with a homework assignment to make a Valentine's Day card box for the party at school. The good thing is they are kids so they don't have to be very elaborate, just functional and have something to do with the holiday. Below are a few of my kid friendly favorites.

Paper Mache Love Bug.

What you'll need:

Two balloons

Red and Black Paint

8 Black Pipe cleaners

Paper Mache Kit *available at any craft store

Blow up the two balloons. Make one a pretty good size for the body and make the other smaller for the head. Then tape them together to create a bug. Mix up the paper mache and apply it to the surface of the balloon, but leave a spot in the body uncovered for the cards to be put in and a spot in the head the size of a pin hole. Once it is dry pop the balloons paint the bug red with black spots like a lady bug, and use the pipe cleaners for legs and antennas, you can attach them anyway you wish, tape, glue, or under the paper mache. Once the paint is dry you're done!

This next one is great if you are really short on time or your child is very young.

Card Box.

What you'll need:

A shoe box

Scissors

Foil

Red and Pink construction paper

Glue

Take the shoe box and tape the lid down, then cover it in the foil. Try to make it as smooth as possible. Then cut a slot in the top of the box so the cards can be put inside. Cut hearts and other Valentine's Day shapes. Once you have that done glue those onto the box and you're done. You can substitute the homemade add ones with ones you found in the store to make it easier. Also you can add glitter to the words, phrases, and other shapes to make it stand out more.

If your child is older and very artistic this next one will be a great one.

Glass Heart

What you'll need:

Red, Pink, and White paint

Paint brushes

Glass heart container or plastic. These containers can be found at any craft store in your area.

This is a great project because it leaves tons of room for creativity. All they do is paint the container anyway they wish. Let the creativity flow.
