Be sure to have all the materials ahead of time, and prepare the play table or high chair before starting to make these Valentine's Day crafts for toddlers.
Valentine's Day Crafts for Toddlers Materials:
clear adhesive paper
red construction paper
masking tape
a large heart stencil
large red craft pom poms
strands or red or white yarn, three inches or longer
large red heart stickers
scissors (adults only)
Preparation for the Making the Pom Pom Heart
To prepare for the Pom Pom Heart Valentine's Day craft for toddlers, take one sheet of red construction paper. Hold the construction paper horizontally Fold the piece of red construction paper neatly in half, matching the corners. Take the scissors and cut out half of a large heart. When you are done cutting the large heart out of the red construction paper, promptly put the scissors away and out of reach.
Once the heart is cut out, you will be left with a large outline of a heart. Save the heart that was cut out for future projects.
Taking the construction paper with the heart cut out of it, it should look like a frame, place a piece of adhesive paper on one side of the paper. Theadhesive paper should not be bigger than the construction paper.
Go to the work or play surface, and put the construction paper with the adhesive paper on the table, with the sticky adhesive side sticking up. Using a small piece of masking tape, secure the top of the construction paper to the table. Do the same on the bottom.
The reason to secure the paper is that it is easier for toddlers to work on a the project when the paper is still. Because of their developing skills, and sheercuriosity, the Valentine's Day craft project may not stay on the flat on the table unless it is securely taped down.
Valentine's Day Craft for Toddlers: Pom Pom Heart
Sit the toddler down, in a low chair at their own table or strapped into a high chair or other seat. Give them a couple of colorful red pom poms. Take one of the pom poms and dot it onto the sticky adhesive. Some of the red material from the pom pom will stick to the adhesive paper. Help the toddler dot the pom pom to "color" the heart red with the pom pom material.
Also provide pieces of red or white yarn, three inches or longer. Take one of the strands of yarn and stick it on the adhesive paper of the heart. Show the toddler how to do this.
When the toddler is finished, hang the Pom Pom Heart on the refrigerator, a window, or save it in a scrapbook.
Valentine's Day Craft for Toddlers: Valentine's Day Sticker Card
Using the heart that was cut out from the above project, a toddler can make their very own Valentine's Day Sticker Card. Or, give the toddler a piece of whole construction paper with a heart drawn on it. Again, use masking tape to secure the paper to the table.
Unpeel a couple of Valentine's Day stickers and put the corner or each one on the table in front of the toddler. Show the toddler how to stick the sticker on the paper to make a decorative Valentine's Day Sticker Card.
The two crafts above can be combined.
