Students, teachers, and most children will accept any reason to have a party. Holidays are wonderful excuses. School children have classroom Halloween parties, Christmas parties, and even Valentine's Day parties.

Valentine's Day is a great reason to get together with family and friends and celebrate the love that you share.

Whether you are having a personal party of your own or one for a group or organization, children will expect to have food and games. The food part is usually the easiest. However, it is not always so easy to create fun theme related games.

In this article, I will describe a few games that children are sure to love.

Valentine's Day Pick-up Candy Hearts Game

Candy hearts are more than abundant this time of year (the kind with the writing on the front). Simply buy a bag and pour them out into a bowl. Grab a couple of chopsticks and see who has the best fine motor skills. Use a stopwatch to time the children and see who can pick up the most hearts in the least amount of time.

Heart Verse Memory Game

Create game pieces out of construction paper or poster board. Cut out several hearts and write verses on each. Make sure that the verses are written in pairs (write one verse on two hearts). Turn the hearts over and have children take turns trying to find matches/pairs.

Pass the Heart

Have one child stand in the middle of a circle of children. Use a small plush or cut out heart. The children in making the circle standing with their hands behind their backs and facing the inside. The child in the middle closes his or her eyes. Play music. The children pass the heart around the circle behind their backs. When the music stops, the child in the middle tries to guess who has the heart. If the child guesses right, the person holding the heart has to go to the middle. If not, the child has to remain in the middle for another turn.
