Valentine's Day Gift Ideas for Grandma

Tonya Hillukka
Grandparents usually are not very picky when it comes to Valentine's Day gifts from their grandchildren. As long as it comes from the heart, it doesn't matter what you give them. And it doesn't have to cost a lot of money; an original painting from a grandchild is more meaningful to them than anything you might buy. Still, it can be difficult to find a meaningful present, especially when they already have a large collection of "special" things from their grandchildren. So what are some thoughtful Valentine's Day gift ideas for Grandma?

Valentine's Day Gifts for Grandma: Engraved heart locket

For a grandmother with just one grandchild, an engraved heart locket with the child's name is just perfect. Place a small photo of her granddaughter or grandson inside and present it in an engraved jewelry box. It is a gift that comes from the heart, yet does not take a lot of time or money to put together.

Valentine's Day Gifts for Grandma: Personalized photo frame

Which grandma does not enjoy looking at a framed photo of herself with her grandchildren? If you are not able to find a frame you like that says "Grandma" or something similar, make your own. Buy (or make, if you're really crafty) a wooden photo frame and paint or decorate it with craft supplies.

Valentine's Day Gifts for Grandma: Flower bouquet or plant

Most women love to receive a bouquet of flowers or a pretty plant. Let the kids choose what kind of flowers to give Grandma, and ask them to arrange the bouquet in a nice vase. Or have them choose a plant that is currently in season. Let them present it to her in a nice flower pot.

Valentine's Day Gifts for Grandma: Homemade cookies

Grandmas are known for their yummy cookies, but why should she always have to do the baking? Let the kids decide on a cookie recipe, then help them make a batch of cookies for their grandmother. Ask them to arrange the cookies neatly on a platter or in a festive cookie jar.

Valentine's Day Gifts for Grandma: Handmade card

Have the kids make their own Valentine's Day cards for their grandparents. Give them some construction paper, scissors, and a little glue--then let them go to town. What can be more special than something that comes from the grandkids' hearts?

You don't have to spend a lot of money on Valentine's Day gifts for your children's grandparents to let them know how special they are. Besides, what can you get for a Grandma who already has a growing collection of trinkets from the grandchildren? Put a little thought into it, but let the kids help out. After all, they are giving the gifts--not you.
