Valentine's Day Gift Ideas for the Special Lady in Your Life

Dee Dee Smith
Almost two decades ago John Gray, a Relationship Expert, made tons of money on a book he wrote entitled Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus. The success of this book validates the principle of this book, that is that men and women think and communicate very differently. This is especially true when it comes to romance, i.e. what is considered a romantic date and/or a romantic gift.

Evidence of this is that many women begin to contemplate their plans for Valentine's Day right after the New Year. Ask a man about his plans for Valentine's Day, and he'll tell you that he hasn't even begun to think about it. Many men will wait until the actual holiday to order flowers and/or shop for a gift. They might find a really nice gift, but probably not a special gift.

Shopping for a special gift for the lady in your life will take some thought and consideration. It's not about how much money you spend, but it's the sentiment and heart behind the gift. Do you want to give your sweetie a gift she'll never forget? If so, explore some of these gift ideas.

1. Where did you first meet her? Or, if you're married, where did you propose? Consider taking her back to that special place and reenacting your special night. You'll be surprised how excited she'll be to know that you remember special details of your relationship.

2. Sure, Valentine's Day is a night for you and her, but nothing would be more thoughtful then surprising her with a visit from a long lost friend or relative. Consider flying in her best friend from high school for the weekend, or even your mother-in-law if that will make your wife happy. The sentiment will be so appreciated that I'm sure you'll be able to look forward to many romantic nights to come.

3. Agree to take a class with your significant other. What would be better for bonding? Does she have an interest in cooking, art or music? Register the two of your for a class through your local community center or college.

4. Take her someplace special that she's always wanted to go. Sure it would be great to take her on a wonderful trip, but it doesn't have to be that extravagant. It can be as simple as taking her to a theater production of The Color Purple or Hairspray, or for a night of jazz music.

5. Give a practical gift. Most women feel overworked; therefore, you probably can't go wrong with a gift that gives her some temporary relief. Some suggestions include: a housekeeper for a month or purchase 12 or more entrees from someplace like Second Kitchen, Ingredientz or Cooking Cottage (these are restaurants she can go to and create her own entrees to take home for the week).
