Valentine's Day Gifts: Breaking the Cliches

Devrie Wise
Whether you love, hate, or care nothing about Valentine's day, someone special in your life would definately love getting a unique gift from you. While giving candy, poetry, and flowers is tradition, and it is certainly appreciated, you could go an extra step by giving or doing something that is totally unexpected.

Five Great Gifts for Your Significant Other

-Remember when the two of you first met? Where did you go on dates? What did you do? Find a token from somewhere that reminds you of those days. Add a personal touch such as an inscription, or have it framed (if possible).

-What does your Valentine hate doing the most? Laundry, dishes, vacuuming? Whether you're married, living together, or just seeing eachother, finishing up that chore that you know your Valentine hates to do not only takes some stress from them, but shows them that you're a good listener. Do the chore then take him or her on a date!!

-Does your Valentine have any favorite hobbies for which you are usually somewhat apathetic? From dancing, to books or poetry, to action flicks or chick flicks, you can do some homework, get involved, and ask your sweety if he or she will spend some time doing them with you. How impressive and cool is that?

-Surprise your Valentine with a trail of love notes. Place a note somewhere where you know he or she will see it first. Have it say something sweet and meaningful. Place another one where you know he or she will be next. Make a trail that leads to you holding a boquet of flowers or to some personal gift.

-Reinvent a first date. You can put a little note in his or her car, on a desk, or anywhere he or she will see it that says something such as, "I couldn't help but notice your (beautiful eyes, incredible smile, great shoes...Etc). Will you go out with me tonight? I'll pick you up at 8pm." Then act as if it is a first date ever, with the nervous smile, the evening kiss, Etc.

Five Great Gifts for your Single Friends

Who says Valentines day is just for couples? Don't be a dark cloud on a bright pink day? Have some fun!

-Tell your friends to dress it up and put on their "sexy suits. " Take your friends to a favorite club and be flirty (yet safe). The tab, of course, is your gift.

-Give your single female friend a gift certificate to a spa with a note that says, "Enjoy your freedom!"

-Give your single male a ticket to his favorite game, or buy him something he's wanted for a while with a note that says, "Enjoy your freedom!"

-Throw a singles party for your single friends.

-Give your single friend a gift that compliments his or her personality/hobby. Being single is the time to be yourself before sharing part of yourself with someone else.
