Valentine's Day Gifts for Children for $1

Jane Vee
On a personal note, I love to give things to my kids. On a parenting level, bad mommy, bad mommy. Too many gifts can lead to spoiled children. My spoilt child is still thankful, though she sometimes expects certain things. On a financial level, she has no concept that mommy is so frugal that she is bordering on cheap.

That's right, I said it. I can buy just about anything for less than most other people would and because I save so much money, I can be viewed as being cheap. I refuse to buy items that are brand name just for the name. Most of the gift ideas listed can be purchased for more money and be the exact same item.

Valentine's Day is no exception to the giving rule. I will usually buy both of my children one gift and of course Valentine's Day candy. I usually escape the trendy prices and give my children a $1 toy, just one toy so they know it's not Easter or Christmas. Again, bad mommy, bad mommy. When parenting a child the holidays should not be about commercialism as much as about whatever the holiday is. I just love to give them toys and I usually don't do it unless there is an occasion.

The gifts usually cost a dollar and they are not that big or fancy. The gift just says I was thinking about you while I was at the store, I love you. These are the types of gifts I get for a special occasion that isn't Christmas or birthdays.

Here is a list of gifts that you can get your child or children for $1. They can be used for Valentine's Day too.

One of the best places to go for $1 items is the Dollar tree. Most things are easy to find and everything is a dollar. These gifts for your children can be found at Dollar Tree for one dollar and other stores that have the same items for a dollar will be listed as well.

Books - Books are always a good gift when you are uncertain about how much or how little to give. Books let the child know it is a holiday and you are thinking about them. It also does not spoil them to the point that they expect a gift. Family Dollar also has books for a dollar. Wal-mart's books are more expensive.

Cars - Dollar Tree has a selection of little vehicles to choose. These are great gifts because the child can put the gift in their pocket and take it with them. The child will be able to remember that you gave it to them.

Coloring books - Coloring books are like books. They are great gifts that children will not come to expect gifts for the Holidays. Family Dollar has a selection of coloring books for a dollar. The crayons at Family Dollar are more expensive.

Crayons - Crayons are an acceptable gift given alone or with a coloring book. They let the child know you are thinking of them and best of all the parent can color with the child.

Pencils - The stores carry decorated pencils. These are really cute little gifts. You cannot spoil the child and yet the child will know there is significance to the day. Wal-mart and Family Dollar both have decorated pencils.

Pens - Pens are individualized as well. They are decorative or fancy and they can be found for a dollar at Wal-mart and Family Dollar too. If you are only buying one Wal-mart and Family Dollar have pens for less than a dollar.

Stickers - Young children love stickers. They decorate themselves, paper, or even walls and clothing with the stickers. Wal-mart's stickers are usually more than a dollar and Family Dollar sometimes has stickers and sticker books for fifty cents.

Stationary - Children that like to scribble love stationary. It makes them feel older. Stationary is a nice gift to give for a holiday.

Dolls - There are an assortment of dolls for one dollar. You can get dolls like Barbie dolls or you can get baby dolls for a dollar. Even though these dolls are not brand names and do not "do" everything other dolls do, they are great toys for the imagination and can save you a small fortune for any holiday.

Stuffed animals - If you have a child that likes stuffed animals, you will love the selection. You can always find something new and interesting for a dollar. I have found puppets, bears that have their own clothing collection, sharks, dolphins, dogs, cats, frogs, monkeys, and even cows.

Hair accessories - Hair accessories are great gifts for a holiday when you want to know the day is special. Hair accessories can also be found for a dollar at Wal-mart and Family Dollar.

Bubbles - Bubbles make great gifts. You can find bubbles at Wal-mart for a dollar as well.

Any of these dollar items make great Valentine's Day gifts and let your child know you love them. Whatever you get for your child for Valentine's Day, it is important to let them know they are special.

I loved coloring when I was a kid. Also, I don't know if they still make them, but I loved those books where you paint with water, and color appears. Nice suggestions.
