Valentine's Day Gifts for Deployed Soldiers

Kristina Jones
Valentine's Day is an important day in any relationship. Every year we go back and forth about what the best gifts are for our significant other. There are the usual cliché gifts, such as flowers and chocolates, and then there are the unique gifts which may hold a very dear place in your loved ones heart. When your significant other is deployed, how can you celebrate the romance of Valentine's Day? Here are some ideas to keep the romantic juices flowing, while your soldier is away.

Ditch the chocolates

My husband always enjoys boxed chocolates but being in Iraq, he more than likely wouldn't be able to enjoy them much, except for a melted mess. Instead of doing the traditional fancy wrapped-box of chocolates, bake him some cookies. You could even frost the cookies in white, pink, or red. On each cookie write a romantic message and place in a Valentine's Day cookie tin.

Get an IPOD

When deployed there's nothing better than receiving some form of entertainment. Buy an IPOD to ship over to him. It doesn't matter which kind of IPOD you buy, just get one. Fill the IPOD up with the most romantic songs you know. You will also want to make sure to include "your song" on the IPOD to add a special touch.

Photos

Every soldier enjoys receiving photos. To make your photos extra special, find a beautiful scrapbook or photo album and create a memory book for him/her. Make sure to include several of you and him together and make sure to have a theme for each page. If you want to make the photos extra special, visit a professional photographer and have some sexy pictures of you to taken. Make sure at least one of them contains a romantic accessory or Valentine's Day message, such as a "Be Mine" pillow.

Send Valentine's Day cards

Remember those cheesy Valentine's Day cards we all used to get so excited about in elementary school? Well, decorate a shoe box or buy a Valentine's Day card box to hold the cards. Find his favorite cartoon character and fill the box up with the cards. Just make sure to write your own little inscription on each card and not duplicate the cards. If you need to, purchase a variety of cards to give a little variety to the cards. Don't forget to add some of those sweetheart candies to go along with the Valentine's Day cards.

It is hard enough to find the perfect Valentine's Day gift for your significant other when they're five feet from you. It is even harder when you are limited to what you can send through the mail to a combat zone. I hope this short list will get your creative juices flowing so you can have a romantic Valentine's Day, even with a loved one deployed.
