Valentine's Day Gifts for Your Girlfriend

Plan Ahead

Pam Gaulin
Dear guys, you know it's coming. You know it's February 14. Do not wait until the last minute to buy your girlfriend a gift for Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day is not optional, it is mandatory.

Some of these gift ideas are almost cliche, but they are also tried and true and loved by girlfriends worldwide. You could buy her the standard gift for Valentine's Day and make your girlfriend happy or go ahead take it to the next level andmake her ecstatic.

Chocolate

Even though she says she's on a diet and does not want chocolate, she does. She may not want to eat it on Valentine's Day, but at some point in the next month she will be looking for some chocolate. Please buy her chocolate. It does not have to be a lot of chocolate, just some chocolate.

Standard: A heart-shaped box of mixed chocolates. Select a nice mixed box of chocolates or a specialty mix of a chocolate she likes. If she's allergic to nuts, don't buy her a Valentine's Day heart with nuts in the chocolate. She may not appreciate it.

Take it the Next Level: Purchase a couple bags or bars of her favorite chocolate. Does she like Dove, Hershey's or Godiva? If you don't know her favorite chocolate, you need to find out. Buy a nice mesh gift bag, open the bags of candies and mix the candies up into the bag. She will appreciate the fact that you know her favorite chocolates, and that you went to the extra effort to make a nice presentation to her.

Romantic Card

There is no way you can get past Valentine's Day without giving your girlfriend a card and survive the relationship. You need to get her a Valentine's Day card that you did not pick out at the gas station on the way to her house. I once received a "Happy Birthday Valentine" card even though my birthday was a month and a half earlier.

Standard: Go early and select a meaningful, romantic (not comedic) card.

Take it the Next Level: Write a personalized note in the store bought card.

Out of this World: If you really want her to swoon, make a card. Use construction paper, use your computer, use your heart and make her a home made card. Write what you feel, say what you mean. Have the tissues ready.

Flowers

Standard: Hand-delivery of one dozen long-stemmed roses.

Take it the Next Level: Find out if she even likes roses. If she has a different favorite flower, find out what it is and order it in advance. Do not take the chance of looking for flowers at the last minute. Your girlfriend will end up with the one wilted rose left in the bottom of the flower case. Send the flowers to her place of work on Valentine's Day.

Out of this World: Make her the center of attention by sending a fabulous flower bouquet to her work that is accompanied by heart-shaped helium-balloons and candy.

Guys, make your life easier and your girlfriend happy by spoiling her on Valentine's Day.
