Valentine's Day Gifts for Her: From Lingerie to Spa Trips

Alexandra Morgan
It's always hard to come up with a great gift for someone you care about, especially if the relationship is new, but there are a couple categories of gifts that will go over well with just about any woman on Valentine's Day. Of course there's always that one special gift that is perfect for and particular just to her, but invariably if you keep three simple criterion in mind, you can't go wrong.

So what are those three things?

Women love to look good, feel good, and smell good.

Almost any romantic gift falls into these three categories, or can be found if you keep them in mind.

(** And remember to think in terms of what she wants, not what she needs.)

The Spa

Most women would treat themselves to regular massages and facials if they had the money and time. A massage or facial is a super relaxing treat for her. Keep your wife, girlfriend, or friend's particular taste and personality in mind when picking a massage or facial package because there are a plethora of options.

There are full body, deep tissue, even sinus massages (though the latter is not very romantic). There are mud, clay, seaweed, and even chocolate facials.

The ways she can be pampered are innumerable, so take your time deciding.

Manicure / Pedicure

Every woman knows just how much fun it is to walk in to a salon, sit in a chair, and have your hands and feet soaked, massaged, exfoliated, and painted. Sometimes this can seem like an unnecessary extravagance in daily life, so surprise her with this luxury for Valentine's Day.

Lingerie

I know it's a little cliche, but the reason it's cliche is because it's a great gift. Yet again, this is an expense that many women who are used to doing for others while going without themselves, forgo. And remember that if you hate the idea of going in to a store to buy something like this (as all the men I know do), there is always online shopping, this takes some of the pressure and uneasiness out of it.

Keep an open mind when shopping, there are tons of options available:

silk robes and nighties

garters and stockings

corsets

etc., etc., etc.

Jewelry

Unless your wife or girlfriend simply doesn't wear any jewelry ever, this is a sure fire hit. Once again, you can go many directions here. You can go expensive and get diamonds, moderate and get gold, or fun and eclectic and get vintage costume jewelry (make sure to get quality if you go this route though).

Buy according to her style. Is she vibrant and outgoing, simple and understated, or classic and feminine? Let that guide you.

Flowers

I can't imagine a woman not being thrilled to receive flowers for Valentine's Day. So, 'nuff said.

Chocolate

If you get chocolate as part of your gift to her, I recommend Swiss, Belgian, or Viennese.

Bath and Body Products

This goes into all three categories. Figure out what her favorite scent is and buy a nice gift basket. The plus here is, these are usually already decorated and arranged with the necessary items.

Take Her on a Trip

Not all trips have to be super expensive. You could take a relaxing day trip and have dinner. Or, book a night or weekend at a nearby cabin - have a fire, some champagne and get away from it all.

** Some Other Options That Might Work:

1.) If you're both in to music, try going to a jazz or blues show or some type of music that you both share a love for.

2.) If you're both sporty and adventurous, book a two day ski trip or lakeside boating weekend. You'd be surprised at the packages available, taking a weekend away doesn't have to break the bank if you plan for it.

3.) I would only suggest this one if your girlfriend loves sports: go to a hockey game (or whatever sport you both enjoy).

4.) If you both enjoy history, try travelling to a town nearby that you haven't ever or don't usually visit and stay at a bed and breakfast, and then check out the town. Pretty much every area has a few spots like this to take advantage of.

As you can see, all of these gifts fall in to the three categories mentioned above. If you keep those in mind, you shouldn't go too far astray when shopping for that perfect Valentine's Day gift for her.

And if you do decide to veer off the beaten path and buy a home appliance or something like that, just be sure you buffer it with a small romantic gift, and be sure that the item of necessity is something she really needs / wants. The main thing to keep in mind on a holiday like Valentine's Day is that you want to receive something you want, not so much something you need.

How about that snack bowl that is also a football helmet? I mean, I would get her favorite team and all, I'm not THAT dense...
