Valentine's Day Gifts for Her: Make Them Eco-friendly

Ted Sherman
If you want her to be much more than merely friendly on Valentine's Day, make your loving gift eco-friendly on that special time of the year. First, be sure to let her know you agree that our polluted old planet should be a cleaner and greener place for everyone to enjoy.

Some suggestions for eco-friendly Valentine's Day gifts for her could help you convince the lady of your sincerity.

1. Flowers: Bring her a large, early spring bouquet of roses or forget-me-nots. Or both. That would assure you of a rosy future with her, because she would never forget your consideration.

2. Potted plant: Be careful what you select. If she is so into veganism that cut flowers would offend her strict vegan beliefs, bring her a living, potted plant. How about some miniature roses, creeping English ivy or a peace lily. If you believe she'd prefer something edible, make it a miniature tomato plant, thyme, baby red peppers or flowering gherkins.

3. Perfumes made from real flowers and vegetables: Oranges, limes and lemons make the best vegan perfumes, because their essense fills rooms with familiar and pleasant citrus smells. Flowers that make the best natural perfumes are roses, lilacs, gardenias and, of course, citrus blossoms. Check online or with your local perfumery to select the best and most fragrant vegan scents just for her.

4. Vegan dinner date: Take her to a vegan restaurant or be creative and cook up your own for a romantic and eco-friendly dinner for two. For example, for your chip and dip appetizer, slice potatoes, squash and/or turnips very thin. Fry them in olive oil until crisp, sprinkle sea salt and blot dry. Serve them with fresh orange juice and dip together.

Serve a home-made or canned vegan mushroom bean soup, with a colorful side dish of broiled broccoli, red cabbage and cauliflower mix. For dessert, present her a cup of a sweet rice pudding with raisins, raw brown sugar, crushed peanuts and cinnamon.

After dinner, a glass of red wine by eco-friendly candlelight can top off a perfect vegan evening.

5. Eco-friendly candles: In addition to the vegan dinner and romantic candlelight ending, give her a gift box of the candles. They can also give off fresh wafts of citrus, rose, lilac and other pleasant natural aromas. Then, you can always be sure that whenever she lights one up, she'll think of you and the wonderful eco-friendly Valentine's Day you spent together
