Valentine's Day Gifts for Him Under Thirty Dollars

Lisa Riggs
If you are lucky enough to be sharing Valentine's Day with a special guy this year, you will surely want to surprise him with a special gift. A new car or an island vacation may be what you wish you give him, but your bank account may not support those gifts of grandeur. Here are some ideas on fun and thoughtful gifts you can give him to celebrate the holiday, without spending more than thirty dollars.

DVD Player and Movie Combo. The prices on DVD players have dropped dramatically, due to the new and improved technology. Purchase your guy a brand new player and then add a movie from the clearance rack of the video rental shop or a discount department store. Choose an old favorite or take a chance on one neither of you have seen before. Stick with the holiday theme of romance or select one jam packed with action to enjoy while eating your holiday dinner.

Sports Themed Apparel. If your significant other loves football, baseball or basketball, surprise him with a new hat, sweatshirt or tee shirt. The prices on these items generally start to dip during the winter, so you will surely be able to score a great bargain. If you find a truly amazing bargain, treat yourself to the female version of the gift to wear while watch his favorite team play their next game.

Box of Homemade Treats. Few homemade gifts express affection better than those that are whipped up in the kitchen. Thirty dollars can purchase quite a few boxes of brownie, cookie and bread mixes. Leave enough in your budget for the eggs, oil and butter. Set aside a few hours the day before Valentine's Day to bake up a bunch of treats for your man. Fill a red box with all your delicious goodies and tie it off with a thick ribbon. He will love that you spent the time to make him a sweet gift straight from the heart.

Add Some Color to His Wardrobe. If your favorite guy generally wears neutral colors during the year, the holiday is a perfect opportunity to add some bold color to his wardrobe. Gift him with a red scarf and gloves, tie or sweater. The symbolism of the color of love will not be lost on him, and he may just be inspired to take a few fashion chances the next time he shops for clothes.

Prepare a Thrifty But Romantic Dinner. A romantic dinner at home is often the most memorable of Valentine's Day gifts. Scour the sale fliers to see what products are on sale the week of the holiday. Plan a tasty dinner for two on your limited budget. Include plenty of red in the color scheme of the meal to give a nod to the holiday. Serve red sauce over pasta, red peppers in the salad and a small bottle of red wine to drink with the food. The contents of the dinner are not what's important. The love and laughter that is shared over the meal is what counts.
