Valentine's Day Gifts for Nature Lovers

A Tree for Each Season

If someone has a yard that could use some new trees, you may want to give them a gift of tree seedlings. You could pick some tree varieties that will have some special beauty for each season of the year. For example, a pine tree is beautiful in the winter. A pink dogwood has beautiful white or pink flowers in the spring. A Sweet bay Magnolia blooms in the summer. Also, trees that have stunning fall foliage colors include the Flame Amur Maple, Sugar Maple and the Yellow Poplar. ArborDay.org is a good source to purchase tree seedlings.

Create a New African Violet

Martha Stewart suggests a cute way to create a new African Violet as a Valentine's Day gift. To propagate this plant, cut a healthy leaf in half. Leave the stem on the leaf. Then use scissors to cut it into a heart shape. Stick the leaf it in a pot of dirt and water it. Then keep the soil moist by placing it in a plastic bag and tying a knot in the bag to keep the air out. Open the bag once a week or so to water the leaf. Within about seven weeks you should start to see a new African Violet growing in the pot.

The Gift of Color

The lilac, crape myrtle, and forsythia bring beautiful color to a yard when in bloom. The lilac has purple flowers and blooms in the summer. This bush grows quite tall and can fill a yard with scent. The crepe myrtle has pink or red flowers and blooms in the summer. The forsythia has bright yellow flowers and blooms in early spring. These colorful bushes are a wonderful Valentine's Day gift. They add joy to a yard. Colorful flowers cheer the mood.

A Pair of Rose Bushes

Symbolism makes for a nice touch on a romantic holiday. Thus a pair of rose bushes to be planted next to each other to symbolize a couple is a special Valentine's Day gift idea. You could pick rose bushes in each person's favorite color or bushes that symbolize a special place. Rose bushes are always a romantic gift.

A Bird Bath

A birdbath for the garden is a lovely gift for a nature lover. Seeing the birds frolic in the bath is a hoot. Also, nurturing the birds by providing them with water source gives you a rewarding feeling.

Hyacinths

In the winter months it is sometimes possible to find potted hyacinth bulbs at garden stores or grocery stores. This beautiful flower is colorful and has a lovely scent too. You can give it as a Valentine's Day gift and watch the flower bloom inside. Then once it is done blooming, plant the bulb in the earth. Next spring you will then have hyacinths blooming outside.

Good idea. Someone gave me a tree when we moved into our home 40 years ago, and boy has it grown since then.

Great ideas for a romantic day, or any day to show signs of love. As my mother used to say, give me flowers while I'm here to smell them, nary a flower when I leave this earth.
