Valentine's Day Ideas: Staying Home with Your Valentine

Christie Silvers
Valentine's Day is fast approaching and you still don't know what to do. Maybe you're short on cash, don't have a babysitter, or just don't want to go out in the Valentine's Day crowds. What ever the reason, staying home with your valentine can be just as fun, exciting, and loving as any other Valentine's Day activity. Here are a few ideas for staying home with your valentine on this day of love.

Have a Special Meal: They say that they way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Well, I know for a fact that women like a good meal too. Show your valentine you're thinking of them by preparing a special Valentine's Day meal. It can be their favorite meal, a meal that's special to the two of you, or just a new recipe you've been thinking about trying. Throw together a spaghetti dinner with salad and garlic bread, and ta-da, it's a Valentine's Day meal for two. Set up a small table and chairs, decorated with candlelight and the fine china you never use, and serve dinner to the one you love. If you don't want to do dinner, or need to wait until the kids are in bed, do a special dessert instead. The decor and setting are all the same, simply replace dinner with a scrumptious dessert.

Turn Your Bedroom Into a B&B: Staying home with your valentine doesn't mean you don't get to celebrate Valentine's Day. Create the "mood" by turning your own bedroom into a bed and breakfast. Remove all clutter, clean up, freshen the bed with clean sheets, a fluffy comforter, lots of pillows and a nice smelling fabric spray. Add candles, light music, flowers, and you could even set up the dinner/dessert table in your room (making it seem even more B&B-like). Pretend that you're out of town and no one can get in touch with you. Turn off the phone ringer, close the laptop, turn off the television, and focus solely on your valentine.

Get Close: If none of the above work for you, at least take the time to get close to the one you love. If you have a fireplace, spread a blanket (or inflatable mattress), grab a bottle of wine (champagne, sparkling fruit juice, etc.), some snacks (chocolate-covered strawberries, cheese and crackers, whipped cream), and snuggle together. Have a good ole fashion adult conversation. You could even turn on a movie you both have been wanting to see and snuggle up on the couch. As long as you're getting close, talking to one another, and feeling the love it doesn't really matter what you do.

Valentine's Day is a day for celebrating love. You don't have to spend a small fortune or even leave the house to show your lover what they mean to you. By simply putting some thought and effort into your time together you can create a memory that'll last an eternity. The two of you may even decide that you'd rather stay home every Valentine's Day. Happy Valentine's Day to everyone!
