Valentine's Day Kid Crafts - Airplane, Mouse, and 2 Bunnies

Renee Bodkin
Valentine's Day is the perfect time to pull out some new craft ideas with the kids. These are some fun, easy crafts that can be done with preschoolers as well as older children. Kids can give gifts to friends, classmates, cousins, aunts, grandparents, neighbors, just about anyone!

Chocolate Kiss Mouse Valentine Craft

Materials:
Two wrapped chocolate kisses
2x2 squares of construction paper, fun foam, or felt
Thread (for whiskers)
Wiggly eyes
very small pom-pom (for nose)
craft glue
Scissors

Directions:
Start by cutting a 1-2 inch tall heart from paper or fun foam. Older children can cut the hearts on their own, if you're doing the project with younger children it would be smart to have the hearts pre-cut. Next step is to put the heart between the two kisses (kisses positioned bottom to bottom) and glue them. Viola, this is the mouse body and the heart shape is the ears for the mouse. Be sure to remove one of the paper tags so you can make the face. Use craft glue to attach wiggly eyes, thread whiskers and a pom-pom nose. Leave the other paper tag for the mouse's tail.
Tip: If you use paper it will speed up drying time and is easier to cut than fun foam.

This Chocolate Kiss Mouse will win over anyone!!

Candy Airplane Craft for Valentine's Day

Materials:
Thin rubber bands
Peppermint LifeSavers
Smarties
Cinnamon gum
Heart-shaped stickers

Directions:
Thread the rubber band through the holes of two LifeSavers. Next, put the rubber band up and around the ends of the gum to hold it all in place. Next take the Smarties and push it through the center across the rubber band. Viola, all you have to do now it decorate the wings with tiny heart-shaped stickers or write a small message on the wings.

Tips: Glue two sticks of gum together to make the wings sturdier.
If little fingers (on little people) are having trouble with the balancing and stretching, have one person hold the candy in place while another maneuvers the rubber band around the gum.

Pencil Mice Heart Valentine

Materials:
Heavy construction paper
Pipe cleaners
Decorated Pencils (you can get Valentine themed ones)
Hole punch
Black Marker or Pen

Directions:
Cut out a bunch of hearts out of pink, purple, or red construction paper, they should be around 3-4 inches wide. Next, draw the mouse's nose and eyes. Now hole punch four holes above the mouse's nose. Put a short length of pipe cleaner through the top two holes and another short piece of pipe cleaner through the bottom two and you have whiskers! Finally, push a pencil down behind the whiskers, down the back of the heart.

Valentine Bunny

Materials:
Baby food jars
Cotton balls
Construction paper
Glue
Scissors
Picture of child

Directions:
First step is to take the baby food jar and fill it with cotton balls. Now, cut out 1 large heart (a little taller and wider than the front of the jar). Next, cut out a medium size heart (about 1 inch larger than the bottom of the jar). Cut out 2 small hearts (about the size of a penny or dime). Once all the hearts are cut out draw the face of the bunny on the large heart. Now glue the large heart to the face of the jar so that the top of the heart goes above the top of the jar (they are the bunny ears). Glue medium heart to the bottom of the jar so that the top of the heart extends past the bottom of the jar (top of the heart should be sticking out from the base - this will be the feet). Glue small hearts on the sides of the jar in the middle (for little bunny hands). Glue a cotton ball to the back of the jar and here you have a cottontail! Here you have your little Valentine Bunny!

Most important thing to remember is to have fun while creating these Valentine's crafts!

I think I'm doing the airplanes for a class party I'm helping with. Thanks!

What clever ideas! These are great for class parties, school art projects, or to do with your kids at home. Like everyone else, I especially love the candy airplane! It's simple, yet very cute! I like how you can easily adapt these ideas to any holiday.

Yum. Great school party crafts. Thanks, from a room parent.

I love the candy airplane, also. I will have to make one with my daughter! Sharon - the "Valentine's parties" depends on where you live. A lot of schools/districts have cut down on holiday parties because of high stakes testing and a respect for different cultures. In many places, they just have a "winter" party and an end of year party.

I'm loving the candy airplane too. That is such a great idea for the grade school Valentine's Parties. They still have those, Don't they?

OK, that candy airplane is just too cute!!!! What a great idea!
