Materials Needed for the Heart Dove Hat
This Valentine's Day craft requires only a few simple materials. First, you will need white and red or pink construction paper. You will also need a Valentine's Day themed ribbon for tying the hat on. You can also use yarn or string if you wise. Scissors, clear-drying craft glue, a stapler and staples, and a black marker complete the requirements for this craft.
Create the Heart Dove Craft
Begin with a large piece of white construction paper. Fold it in half and cut out a half heart shape: round at the top and tapering to the piont at the bottom. If you have never done this before, practice on some scrap paper first. This heart shape will make the body of the dove.
To make the head and wings of the dove, fold another piece of white construction paper in half and cut out two hearts. The first, for the wings, should be approximately five inches long. The one for the head should be three to four inches long.
To put the bird together, begin by laying the large heart, round side down and point to the front, on the table. Slip the medium sized heart over the top fold with the round side to the front. Stick the point up slightly to make the folded heart look like the wings of the bird.
The head is positioned opposite the wings. The sharp point of the small heart is the beak of the bird. Attach these parts to the large body piece of paper with the craft glue.
Finishing the Valentine's Day Dove Hat
One more heart is required to complete the heart dove hat. Cut a small heart from red or pink construction paper. Using the black magic marker, write a nice Valentine's Day greeting on both sides of the heart.
Then, cut a small slit in the beak of the bird and glue this red heart between them. The impression will be that the dove is carrying this message of love to you.
The final step in creating this hat is to attach the ribbon. Cut a length of ribbon in half and staple an end to either side of the hat just under where the wings are attached. Put the Valentine's hat on your head and tie the ribbon under your chin. The Valentine's Day heart dove hat is complete.
