Valentine's Day Love Poem: Sweet Daddy, Valentine

Barbara Lee Norris
My daddy is a hero,
He can't be home with me.
Because he's needed in the war,
Across the deep blue sea.

He said just blow some kisses,
Don't worry, they'll be fine,
They travel fast, head straight for me
Sweet baby, Valentine.

My daddy blew me kisses, too,
They landed on my cheek,
My mommy says he'll send some more,
To look for them next week.

I cry because I miss him;
Mommy whispers we'll be fine.
Come home, I want to hold you,
Sweet daddy, Valentine.

    Ahh, how tender and sweet! Very nicely done! I agree with Jennifer, this should be posted in a Military magazine, because there it would have the added exposure to touch so many more hearts. (^;^)

    Okay, you've opened the flood gates again. My daughter was just two when we were separated from my husband for a year. She was too young to remember him though I showed her pictures and let her listen to the taped messages he sent for her. When we were finally able to join him a year later, she squiggled out of my arms and ran like the wind to throw her arms around his neck, shouting daddy, daddy, daddy all the way. She couldn't stop kissing him and wouldn't let go of him for days. It was like she was afraid he would disappear again. Children shouldn't have to go through that kind of fear and anxiety. It isn't right. But they do. Many of my Tiny Tots Brigade have fathers overseas. They can't wait to get a message, a letter, a card - - anything to let them know their fathers are still alive. It is heartbreaking. One of my tots' father did not come home alive. He is dealing as best he can but the light has gone out of his sweet face. He runs to me for hugs everytime I see him because he
