Make Your Child's Lunch Special on Valentine's Day

Emily Harmon
One of the easiest ways to remind your kids that you love them is to slip a little something extra into their lunch boxes. On Valentine's Day there are plenty of typical treats like chocolate hearts that are easy to buy and put in your child's lunchbox. But if you want your child to be truly excited about her special Valentine's Day lunch, try these fun ideas for creating the perfect Valentine's Day lunchbox.

Valentine's Day Lunchbox Idea #1: Heart-Shaped Sandwich. After making your child's sandwich for lunch, simple use a large heart shaped cookie cutter to shape the entire sandwich into a heart. When she opens her lunchbox and unwraps her sandwich on Valentine's Day at school she will be so excited to find a special heart inside the foil.

Valentine's Day Lunchbox Idea #2: Pink and Red Theme. An easy way to make sure your child's entire lunch looks special for Valentine's Day is to create a completely red and pink themed lunch. For the main course, make salami rolls---slices of salami lunchmeat rolled with a little cream cheese inside. For the side dishes pack watermelon chunks, a "pink lady" apple, raspberries, sliced radishes, strawberries, red pepper strips, and/or dried cranberries. For dessert, choose any number of fun Valentine treats from heart-shaped Little Debbies to homemade brownies with pink icing.

Valentine's Day Lunchbox Idea #3: Heart Shaped Pizzas. Making heart shaped pizzas for the lunch box is super easy with some heart shaped cookies cutters. Just take a tortilla and cut out heart shapes for the crust. Next, purchase sandwich sized pepperoni slices and cut heart shapes out of the pepperoni. Finally, press heart shapes out of sliced provolone cheese. This "heartfelt" pizza will be such a fun surprise for your child when she opens her lunchbox on Valentine's Day.

Valentine's Day Lunchbox Idea #4: Valentine's Confetti. A non-food way to surprise your child on Valentine's Day is to fill her lunchbox with some Valentine themed confetti. Don't get carried away, you don't want to upset the school custodians, but sprinkling a little fun Valentine confetti in your child's lunchbox will certainly make her smile come lunchtime.

Valentine's Day Lunchbox Idea #5: Pink Milk. A fun way to surprise your child on Valentine's Day is to pack pink milk in his lunch. Instead of the usual white or chocolate milk, purchase some strawberry syrup and turn his milk pink for the day. Just make sure your milk is packed in a see-through container so he can enjoy the Valentine's Day fun!

Valentine's Day is a great day to let your kids know just how much your love them. Celebrate the day by packing a very special Valentine's Day lunch in your child's lunchbox.

Cute ideas ~ I used to include a Valentine's card and a piece of candy, but I like the idea of heart shaped sandwiches.
