Valentine's Day Playlist for Parties and Couples

Alexandra Morgan
There are plenty of songs to choose from when creating a party playlist for your Valentine's Day Party; you could go with dance music, corny love songs; or if you happen to be single and a tad bitter, you could go for the cold break-up tunes. Any way you go, there are tons of songs for the choosing for a Valentine's Day Party Playlist.

I made two playlists, one that I thought most people (especially those in relationships) would enjoy, and another that would be songs of my own chosing (you know, the kind that ascerbic and slightly depressive people would enjoy). In each of these you'll find upbeat, slow, and contemplative songs; afterall, a perty isn't just about the dancing.

A Valentine's Day Party Playlist For Couples:

1.) "KISS" by Prince

If this song doesn't make you want to dance (or kiss), there may be something wrong with you. The plus with this tune is it's danceable and also a great Karaoke tune.

2.) "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel

The most remembered tune (and scene) from the 80's romantic comedy "Say Anything" and a great romantic song overall. Put this one on when you need to mellow the party out for some slow dancing after several uptempo songs.

3.) "Romeo and Juliet" by Dire Straits

"Romeo and Juliet" is a good classic rock, romantic standard to add to your party.

4.) "Aint Nobody" by Chaka Khan

This has to be the perfect party song, so much fun to sing and dance to.

5.) "Angel Eyes" by Jeff Healey's Band

If you don't recognize the song by title, trust me I'm sure you've heard it on the radio - give it a google. This is a great slow tempo Valentine's Day song.

6.) "Without You" by Harry Nielson

This is the one Mariah Carey covered, but if you don't want people running for the door, I suggest using the original. "I Can't Live" definitly lives up to the cheese factor suggested in the title, but it's a wonderful ballad choice.

7.) "Harmony" by Elton John

Another slow song, not always remembered, but a great little song nonetheless.

8.) "I've Just Seen A Face" by the Beatles

Kick it back old school with this uptempo tune from the Help album.

9.) "8 Days A Week" by the Beatles

You can't just do one Beatles song, right?

10.) "Here Comes My Girl" by Tom Petty

When in doubt put on a little Petty and that should pick the party up.

11.) "Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time" by the Delphonics

A little soul does a body good. Give your party a cool laid back vibe by switching this song on.

12.) "The Buddy Holly Song" by Weezer

Something romantic, yet sarcastic, and danceable - perfect for a party.

13.) "Haunted" by The Pogues

Need I say more? The Pogues are awesome and let's face it, when drinking is there really a better band to listen to?

14.) "Let's Stay Together" by Al Greene

Another soul classic filled with romance.

15.) "Your Love Keeps Liftin' Me Higher" by Jackie Wilson

Danceable and partyrific.

16.) "Sexual Healing" by Marvin Gaye

I can't think of a better Valentine's Day party tune, but obviously you'll want your party to be all 18 and over for this one.

17.) "Day Dream Believer" by the Monkeys

Yes, this is one of the corniest songs in creation, but it's fun.

18.) "Take On Me" by A-Ha

Remember this 80's hit? If you're going to throw a party, it's nice to have a playlist that touches on every era of music possible and this song is a good way to give your salute to the 80's.

19.) "White Wedding" by Billy Idol

Another 80's tune that is rarely right for a party occassion, but fits quite nicely for Valentine's Day.

20.) "The Way You Make Me Feel" by Michael Jackson

Ahh, the days when Michael Jackson was kinda normal, remember those? Turn up this dance worthy tune to keep the energy up at your Valentine's Day Party.

21.) "Some Kind of Wonderful" by Grandfunk Railroad

This song tends to get overplayed but it is pretty apropos for Valentine's Day and most people know it.

22.) "Why Don't We Do It In The Road" by The Beatles

Another NC 17 choice, but fun just the same and hysterical when a room full of people are singing along.

23.) "I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton

Just a great song in general, though al little sad and break-upish.

24.) "Ring of Fire" by Social Distortion

I put the Social Distortion version on this list because it's a little more appropriate for this type of Valentine's Day Party (you'll see below on my list that I've put the Johnny Cash version down).

25.) "Time After TIme" by Cyndi Lauper

What party would be complete without Cyndi Lauper? You just can't help but be happy when listening to her.

26.) Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond

This song should just be declared a "party have-to" song, it is the ideal party song.

27.) "Sex on Fire" by Kings of Leone

I know a lot of people hate this song, but for some reason I love it. So, if you're one of those people who does love it, add it to your Valentine's Day Playslist and tell the haters to just deal.

My Valentine's Day Party Playlist (For the ascerbic and / or single):

1.) "Sweet Jane" by The Velvet Underground

Kinda danceable tune.

2.) "Angel" by Jimi Hendrix

A beautiful slow tempo song.

3.) "As The Years Go Passing By" by John Hammond

One of the loveliest blues tunes around.

4.) "I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton

This one somehow works for both singles and people in love.

5.) "Ring of Fire" sung by Johnny Cash

I gotta go with the Cash version.

6.) "Time After TIme" by Cyndi Lauper

Love it, love it.

7.) "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond

It gets no better than this in my opinion for party songs.

8.) "Liar" by Rollins' Band

For me a party isn't a party without at least one punk song and this is the pinnacle of f-you heartbreak songs.

9.) "Romeo and Juliet" by Dire Straits

Sad and romantic, which makes it perfect.

10.) "Aint Nobody" by Chaka Khan

I just love this song.

There are several more that I would add to my own playlist if I thought a little more about it - definitly a few Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Nina Simone tunes and some more dance music, but you get the idea.

Hopefully you can compile your perfect Valentine's Day Partylist with a few of these, if they suit your style.
