Valentine's Day Popped Up as an Embarrassing Holiday

Andrea Coventry
My boyfriend and I had been together for several months, and Valentine's Day was approaching. We decided to actually make a big deal of the holiday, only a romantic evening turned into an embarrassing Valentine's Day memory.

Setting Up the Envrionment

I tried to set the stage for a romantic evening at my house, where we would hang out after going out to dinner. I thoroughly cleaned my house from top to bottom. Candles were spread out all around the living room. I even set up my three-cd changer with Sarah McLachlan, as she is the queen of sappy romantic songs.

To prepare for going out, I soaked in my garden top, while reading a cheesy romantic novel. I actually did my hair and make-up and actually put on a dress. I was all set for a romantic evening.

Dinner at Red Lobster

For dinner, we decided to splurge and go to Red Lobster. I love seafood, and was very excited. As expected, the restaurant was crowded and on a wait. We gave our names and walked over to the nearby video game store to shop around. I found a couple of old school Nintendo games before our table was ready.

Dinner itself was quite lovely. We ordered jalapeno poppers as an appetizer, which I'd never had before. I tend to shy away from jalapenos, but these were fantastic. I ordered a shrimp entree, as all good Coventrys love their shrimp. We filled up on the food and Cheddar Bay biscuits, before heading back to my house.

Dancin' the Night Away

We got back to my house. The stage was set. I lit the candles and turned down the lights. I flipped on Sarah McLachlan, and we started slow dancing. All of the sudden, he pulled away with a nervous and surprised look on his face. "I'll be right back." He ran back to the bathroom.

A moment later, he returned, and we started slow dancing again. The panicked look returned, and he took off running for the bathroom.

When he returned, he apologized and said that he was going to have to leave. Those jalapeno poppers had done him in.

I was embarrassed for him, and disappointed that all of my hard work toward a romantic evening was getting flushed away. But for him, I guess it was an even more embarrassing Valentine's Day memory.
