Valentine's Day: Romantic Gifts

Annamaria Harvey
The most romantic valentine's gifts do not always have to be the most expensive ones. What is much more important is the thought and effort that go into it. Just picking up a flower bouquet or a box of chocolates on the way home from work does not get high marks on the romance meter. Anyone can do that. And lingerie isn't any better; most of it is wildly uncomfortable or just ridiculous to most women. What defines a romantic valentine gift is the special feeling it gives the person receiving it. Here are some great ideas that are sure to make your beloved feel incredibly special and loved.

A Special Night In

This doesn't have to be a big production with dozens of candles lighting the entire house. A couple tapers on the dining room table with a unique and light dinner menu prepared will say enough. A citrus salad, baked pork loin with red potatoes and a dessert soup makes a good menu that is sure to please. Pop in a cd of romantic music like jazz and leave the other distractions off i.e. the computer, internet, cell and/or TV. Champagne is a splendid touch that exudes romance. Eat, drink and enjoy each other's company, then curl up next to the fireplace or on the sofa and just bask in one another.

Or for a little more fun fill a bathtub with rose petals and essential oils or little bath soaps in the shape of rose petals which are sold online here or at boutique shops that specialize in bath products. You can get enough for one bathtub for under $10. Dim the lights if you can or turn them off completely and light a couple vanilla scented candles, and add some sensual or relaxing music. Let your special someone soak for a bit then offer to hand feed her some grapes or strawberries and watch her melt. If you're lucky enough to have an extra large tub even suggest joining her and scrubbing those hard to reach places.

Unique Messages

Too seldom do we tell our loved ones just how much we really care for them. This Valentine's day tell them all the ways they mean so much to you. Perfect for him or her, a message in a bottle or a jar of personalized messages each individually wrapped is as romantic as it gets. For an extra special treat hide one in his briefcase or lunch bag for him to find at work. Leave one by the front door for her to find on her way out or slip one in her purse. Ranging from $25 to $45 per jar or bottle the possibilities for romance are endless with this gift. Check out FindGift.com's selection for some great ideas for your message(s) in a bottle or jar.

Destination Getaway

For those with an extravagant flair book a bed and breakfast for the day or weekend. They are perfect for couples with a hectic schedule to unwind and recharge while focusing on each other. Most large cities have several quaint and beautiful B&Bs to choose from in the heart of the city or secluded in the outskirts. Let your sister, cousin, mom or next-door neighbor watch the kids while you immerse yourself in relaxation and romance. Commune in the moonlit garden in the backyard, take a sunset stroll nearby or soak in the tub together, read to each other by the fireplace and enjoy meals just for the two of you. For that little extra bit of romance, tell your significant other that you have a surprise for him/her and then blindfold them and drive them to the B&B and unveil your getaway once you get there. Most B&Bs charge from about $100 - 200 per night but are well worth it. Take a look at Bed&BreakfastInns Online to book your romantic getaway
