Valentine’s Day Viewing: ‘Some Like It Hot’

Christopher Sacco

Billy Wilder's classic comedy "Some Like It Hot" is the single best movie to watch on Valentine's Day. In it, two musicians pose as women and join a female band after witnessing a gangland murder. The pair quickly falls in love with the lead singer of the group, played by Marilyn Monroe, and must stay in disguise while simultaneously competing to win her heart.

By today's standards, "Some Like It Hot" probably wouldn't be considered a "romantic comedy," but the film is wonderfully offbeat, complete with infectious musical numbers, great performances from Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon, and some truly side-splitting scenes. It remains one of the most inventive and provocative comedies ever produced and will serve as a real treat to those looking for something a little different this Valentine's Day. It might not be the greatest love story every told, but it's certainly the funniest.
