Dancing the night away to the romantic Big Band sounds of a 1940's style Hangar Dance is the ultimate Valentine Day experience. Set amidst WWII and other vintage aviation beauties, such as the A-26 Invader, DH89 Dragon Rapide and the Mosquito, you and your sweetheart can get In The Mood at the annual Military Aviation Museum Hangar Dance. Located in the beautiful Pungo strawberry fields near Virginia Beach, the Military Aviation Museum boasts that it is "one of the largest collections of vintage aircraft in the world --- and they fly!"

What is a Hangar Dance, you say? The Museum explains that during World War II, "dances were held in airplane hangars and they were usually put on as fundraisers for the war effort. A hangar dance is like stepping back in time." No doubt about it: celebrating Cupid's special day with a hangar dance makes for "a memorable Valentine's evening filled with music, romance, and history" --- can you almost hear Doris Day crooning "Gonna take a sentimental journey"?

The Military Aviation Museum really "puts on the dog" --- it goes all out --- to make its Valentine Hangar Dance first-rate. The wonderful, evocative setting of its huge airplane hangar, the jazz and swing of bands such as the Terry Chesson Orchestra, and delicious heavy hors d'oeurves with beer and wine will have you and your sweetheart Swinging On A Star.

For those who want to add even more Stardust to the evening, the Museum encourages guests at the Hangar Dance to wear fashions from the time period or military uniforms. There's even a contest for Best Dressed couple in vintage clothing! And don't forget to get a special commemorative photo next to a WWII aircraft.

As part of the evening's program, World War II and Korea veterans will be honored for their service to a grateful nation. A special section of the hangar will be set aside so that you can light a candle in remembrance of someone who made the ultimate sacrifice for the cause of freedom.

The Valentine Hangar Dance at the Military Aviation Museum is sure to be Some Enchanted Evening. So, Take the 'A' Train to the Military Aviation Museum. The museum is located at 1341 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23457. Phone (757) 721-7767. For information on the dance and the museum, please visit www.MilitaryAviationMuseum.org.
