Valentine's Day Weekend Getaways or a Day Trip in Central Florida

Paula Andra
Looking to get away for a special, memorable, fun or romantic time for Valentine's Day. Here are some possible suggestions for an overnight or weekend getaway in the Central Florida area. The first three are in or near the Orlando area. The next two are in the Tampa area. If getting away for even a night isn't quite what you're looking for, then perhaps the last choice to Captiva might be what you're looking for, since you can do this one as a day trip:

Orlando Area:

Disney:

Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and Villas is located on a 33 acres, home to zebras, giraffes and other animals. Your accommodation will have a thatched-roof and be African in style. Watch the wildlife from your room or from other public areas in the resort. You can also go to the nearby Animal Kingdom Park to see the different
animals.

There are two restaurants at the Animal Kingdom Lodge which serve African cuisine, another serves American food. They also offer a wide selection of South African wines.

A room for Feb. 13 to Feb. 14, starts at $340 at the Animal Kingdom Lodge's Kidani Villas.

Universal Studios:

Loews' Portofino Bay Hotel has an Italian theme where the guests can play bocce ball or walk in the harbor plaza, where nightly concerts play Italian style music. Mama Della's Ristorante serves Italian food, has strolling musicians and Mama Della visits you at your table. Reservations start at $339 a room per night in February.
There are also other packages and specials available.

Mount Dora:

The Lakeside Inn in Mt. Dora is a romantic Victorian with a floral theme and wide verandas that view Lake Dora. You can go antiquing in the many antique shops, check out the art galleries or take an excursion on the lake. There are several packages to choose from. Their two night Weekend Escape packages, for Valentines' Day weekend are from $399.

Tampa Area:

Delray Beach:

The Colony is on Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach. This is an historic hotel with a Palm Beach ambiance. It has a hand-cranked elevator which takes you to antique filled rooms with wooden floors. Many are suites at the same price as a room. It's within walking distance of the beach, clubs, restaurants and shopping. The hotel also has a Cabana Club, with a pool on the oceanfront, two miles from the hotel and served by a free shuttle from the hotel. A queen sized bedroom is $233.04 per night.

Captiva Island:

Go to Captiva for the day. Either spend the day shopping, and eating in the restaurants, or having a picnic and laying in the sun on the beach, walking on the beach or going in the ocean. There are also a lot of other possibilities such as riding a scooter around the island, sailing in a Hobie Wave Sailboat, taking a two hour
guided Cayo Costa Waverunner trip or the one hour North Captiva route. You could also do your own route without a guide.

I planned to teach college art in studio & history. But I needed to home school our son and did short term missions instead, which benefited from my education. I write about the trips I take for our ministry.  View profile
