Every serious reader is in need of a bookmark (or 10). You don't have to get any old bookmark, though. Make it special, choose something that reflects you, that special someone, or perhaps a little bit of both. Etsy.com has a great selection of hand-made bookmarks for you to choose from, many of which can be personalized. Give a gift that is both personal and practical. This will hold her page; you hold her heart.
All bookworms need a book light. Whether there is not enough light in a room, or you don't want to wake your adorable snoozing significant other, a book light would be a useful tool to have handy. These are usually very reasonably priced and can range from $7-$50+. Here is an affordable one at Amazon.com that has great reviews: the Fulcrum Multi Flex LED Book Light in Silver. It is lightweight, with a flexible neck and a sturdy clip.
An obvious choice if you want to get that special someone something to read but don't know what is on his or her reading list, is a gift card or gift certificate. What many don't know, though, is that you can give the traditional plastic kind, to be used online or in stores. There are also e-gift certificates that can be used exclusively online. If you're a last minute shopper, this may well be the answer for you. Barnes and Noble is one online merchant that offers offers e-gift certificates. No guesswork required.
Finally, you may have a reader in your life who is into books and gadgetry. The perfect solution is the Sony Digital Reader Book. While this is on the pricier end, it is a wonderful solution to the problem of carrying loads of books around, or shelves so full that books are falling from them. Right now, Sony has a Valentine's Bundle for their reader. This comes with 14 romantic novels, just in time for Valentine's Day. To sweeten the pot, they'll even through in a free "Cross Your Heart" protective cover from skin-it. Don't worry if he or she is not a fan of pink. The skin doesn't come on the reader; it can be applied or left off. An added bonus: right now Sony is offering 100 free e-books with the purchase of their digital reader. Imagine how much room those would take up on the shelves. Lighten the load for the person you love.
