Valentine's Mix Up

Leigh S.
Valentine's Day 2009. Salt Lake City. As my best friend and I were wrapping up a day of skiing, we decided to find a fun restaurant where we could enjoy a drink and satisfying meal. Like many people, when on a week long vacation, we had easily forgotten what day it was. We searched for a local Mexican restaurant, programmed the Garmin and set out. To our surprise, the restaurant had a two hour wait. Since we were starving, we opted for something else, setting out for a place with less than a 30 minute wait. We drove around Salt lake to no avail. Frustrations were rising when we spotted a favorite chain: Chili's. To our surprise, they could seat us immediately.

Like many close friends, we both enjoy several of the same things. We started off by ordering Chips and salsa to share as an appetizer. After mulling over the menu, we both opted for margaritas as well. Our server carded us and after checking our ID's gave us a quick wink. We thought it was strange, but quickly got back to enjoying our meal. When it came to ordering the main dish, I told the waiter, "this is dumb, but we want the same thing again." After finishing the main dish, our waiter returned to inquire about our dessert choices. As described each meal, he noted that several of them were great for couples to share. We immediately looked at each other in shock and back at our waiter. "We are not a couple!" I said intently, "why would you think that?"

"You both have the same address on your IDs," he responded. My best friend immediately started laughing.

"We used to be roommates, and I haven't changed my address yet," she told the waiter. He didn't flinch.

That's when we looked around the restaurant and noticed all the tables were filled with couples. We then checked our phone and realized it was Valentine's day! A word to the wise: keep track of the date!
