Valentine's Party Games for Preschoolers

Lisa Carey
Have a bunch of children coming over for a playdate Valentine's Day party? Or maybe you want the children at preschool to have more to do that pass out Valentine's and then pass out from a sugar high? Find out my favorite Valentine's party games for preschoolers.

Heart Counting Game
It's simple - you need construction paper, markers, and stickers. Cut out heart shapes. Write a number on the heart. Put stickers on the heart (according to the number written) and then cut in half. Have children draw the half pieces out of a "hat" and find their match. (Source About.com Family Crafts)

Pin the Arrow on the Cupid
Just like it sounds - who needs to pin a tail on a donkey? Cut out a large scale cupid shape or use a large scale cupid foil cut out available at party stores. From card stock cut out arrows. You can either cut different colored arrows or place numbers on the arrows. Pull out a scarf, cover their eyes, a few turns and pin the arrow on the cupid.

Let's Go Fishing for Valentine's
Cut out fish - emphasizing the heart shape of a fish body. Tape a large paper clip to the fish cut out. Create a fishing pole with some string, a tree branch and a magnet. Kids go "fishing" for love. After all, don't we all learn that there are a lot of fish in the sea?

Cupid Says
You got it - "Simon Says" but cupid says it. Think of things like blow a kiss. Beating heart. Jump for joy. Let kids take turns being Simon too. Simon may even be wearing a Valentine hat made especially for this game.

Valentine Counting
Use this free printable and have children cut out numbers, count the Valentine symbols and match the answers.

Valentine Domino's
This is one of my children's favorites - we also do it for Halloween and Thanksgiving. Here is your free printable Valentine Dominos. Print on card stock, laminate for long lasting play and let the games begin.

Candy Sorter
Provide children with plastic bowls of different colored candy hearts. Have them sort into different colors and make stacks according to colors. You can also use Valentine's M&M's or Jelly Beans for Easter. Since this year the Chinese New Year is also during Valentine's Day, why not add fine motor skills to the game by providing the kids with chopsticks for sorting.

Valentine's Bingo
Print out these free Valentine Bingo sheets and use candy hearts or M&M's instead of pennies or buttons. Call out the Valentine symbols and have children make the match.

So, get ready, get set and go PLAY!

Dedicated to my dear friend Kyong.
