Valley Fireworks Show in Sayre, Pennsylvania

17th Anniversary, Bigger and Better

Margaret Kerr
While everyone expects Fireworks on the 4th of July, no one expects them to be 4 days early. But, if you're located in the Valley Area on the New York/Pennsylvania border, that is when the fireworks are. This year's Valley Fireworks Show is scheduled for June 30 at River Front Park in Sayre.

What else do they have to offer you at River Front Park? They have food and drinks, including a beer tent. They also plan on having games of chance, novelty items and even live music from a local group, Autumn Wind at 7pm with the fireworks display commencing at 10pm to wrap the entire event up. If you bring a radio, you can tune it to WATS/WAVR 102.1FM during the fireworks and you will have your entire show set to specially choreographed music.

After the fireworks, there will be an After Glow party with more great live music from Autumn Wind and special drink prices for everyone to enjoy. Gates open at 5pm, bring a blanket, bring a picnic and make a night of it. Admission is $5 per carload or $2 at the gate for walk-ins. This year's show is touted as being special, as it is the 17th anniversary of the show. Can they make it bigger and better than ever? Show up at Sayre's River Front Park and find out.

Need directions to River Front Park? From the Elmira or Binghamton, NY area, take Rt. 17 (east or west respectively) to exit 61 for Waverly/Sayre. At the end of the ramp turn right and go straight until crossing the railroad tracks, turn left onto Lehigh avenue. Go straight toward downtown Sayre, At the "Y" you can either go left following the signs, parking along the tracks or you can go straight to the stop sign. Turn left over the bridge, at the top of the bridge turn right and follow the signs into River Front Park From the Towanda area, take Rt. 220 North to the Athens exit, this is the first exit after the four lane begins, turn right at the end of the off ramp and go straight through two red lights. Continue straight until you come to the railroad tracks, turn right and follow the tracks until you come to the track crossing, cross the tracks and take an immediate left. This takes you to the entrance of the park..

Don't worry if it rains, they have a rain date of July 1 for the entire event. Just remember, if you're going to indulge, take a designated driver or walk home. Don't drink and drive, make sure that you're able to celebrate the 4th of July with your family.
