Valley Vista RV Resort Benson, Arizona

Kartchner Caverns, Tombstone, Tuscon

When we left Hauchuka, Arizona, we stopped at Valley Vista RV Park in Benson, Arizona for one week, which is only about 25 miles from Hauchuka. We really like this whole area of Arizona for lots to do and see and for all the fascinating history.

The park was a KOA that has become an open-to-the public and a membership park.. We had a good time walking around the park area, found a cemetery, did some geocaching and even took in a live one-man-band concert in the clubhouse. We found the park to be clean, neat and despite all the rain they got this last winter, the roads were much better than some of the other parks in the area. This park seemed to be slightly sloped so all the rain water runs off and the roads are good. DVDs and VHS are free to check out and I even partook in a crafts sale in the clubhouse. Right on the property is a filling station/convenience store where you can get a newspaper, restock your supplies, rent a movie, etc.

We walked one day right from the park and found the cemetery. We love to visit cemeteries and read the headstones. Some can be very interesting and sometimes it's fun to do a rubbing or two. We did our geocaching that day which took us to the cemetery. We walked further on and found a bluff high enough to see the whole valley. We had a very pleasant walk and day. You have to get out and hike or walk and you'd be surprised what you might see or find.

We enjoyed the close proximity of shopping, too. We try to find parks where shopping, sightseeing and restaurants are close enough so we're not spending lots gas. There's a WalMart not far and to us that's important for groceries and refilling prescriptions.

Kartchner Caverns, Tombstone and Tuscon are not far from this park. We spent a day visiting Tombstone and took in a few of the shows. Don't miss Boot Hill, the Bird Cage Theater, the OK Corral and the Courthouse State Historic Park. Bisbee is close by and you can read about that in my review of the Quail Ridge RV Park. Mexico is only 1 hour away, Tucson is a little more than 1 hour away where you'll find an 18 hole golf course, cultural events and mountain scenery. Ft.. Hauchuca Buffalo Soldier Museum is close by and not to be missed. You won't regret visiting any of the museums.

A little about the park now. Valley Vista RV Park has 145 sites, is an old KOA park, remodeled and has a cozy, but small clubhouse. The maximum electrical is 30 amps.......no 50amp available. They have a nice laundry room, outdoor heated pool, an outdoor hot tub, cable hook ups for a small fee, horseshoes and shuffleboard, They do have a nice billiard table and scheduled activities. Handicapped sites are available.
