Vampire John Mitchell Killed Off on BBC's Being Human as Aidan Turner Becomes Movie Star

Here in the States, the BBC's Being Human third season finale aired on April 9th. Fans were shocked when John Mitchell, played by Aidan Turner, was staked and died at the end of the episode. But this wasn't the direction the writers wanted to take the character, this happened because Aidan Turner was offered the chance to make two movies, and he accepted.

It's often said that it is the nature of the business when actors' careers take off and they leave the show that made them famous to move on to bigger and better things. It's certainly understandable that someone would want to accept the best opportunity. After all, an actor never knows when their career will end. But what about all the people involved with the show? What about the fans?

A fourth season of Being Human is planned, but how can it be successful? The premise of the show was a vampire, a ghost, and a werewolf being roommates. But now they've killed off the vampire. And there weren't any other friendly vampire characters created that could take the place of Mitchell. The other main character is another werewolf, George's pregnant girlfriend. Many fans hate her and are just waiting it out, hoping for her death. The show is starting to be more about werewolves than being balanced between werewolves, vampires, and ghosts.

With the death of Mitchell, the original Being Human doesn't have a prayer of survival. They can make more episodes, but the fan following will start dropping until it's cancelled. It's hard enough to keep good shows on the air without the actors jumping ship on shows that otherwise weren't at risk of cancellation. No wonder there are so many reality TV shows instead of quality programs.

Many viewers have questioned why the Canadian version of Being Human was ever made since the BBC version was so popular. The Canadian version's storyline is somewhat following the original version's storylines. But with Mitchell dead in the original version, what does this mean for the vampire character in the Canadian version? That version is going to have to break free from the original or also write off one of their main characters.

I predict the original Being Human will be cancelled after the 4th season. Many vampire TV shows were cancelled too early such as Forever Knight, Blood Ties, Moonlight, and Kindred: The Embraced. But none of those shows were cancelled because the actors decided to move on. At least we still have HBO's True Blood.

I was holding out hope for Mitchell when the older vampire showed up and was stunned when George staked him.
I for one won't continue watching next season...it was a great balance with the 3 characters but Nina is NO replacement for Mitchell.
The Canadian version is getting much better so I will stick with it.

I didn't see Mitchell getting killed off, that threw me, however I do not believe his absence will be the end of the show, its a great show, and George is my fav anyway.

If the writers want to work in another vamp, im sure they will be able to do so, Im looking forward to the birth of what ever Nina has.

    Long live BBC's Being Human
