Whether this is the real reason for the cancellation of the tour is unknown at this point, although it is a fair assumption. This was David Lee Roth's first tour with Van Halen in 23 years, and it was a major event for all Van Halen fans.
The cancellation has not yet been made official, so right now nothing is set in stone.
My first Van Halen concert was in 1984, and the feeling when you stand in the crowd with Van Halen on the stage is unbelievable. The music was jamming out, and David Lee Roth did awesome vocals and performance.
Back then the concerts were different. Everything sounded more real, the people and fans were more real. I was only in my early teens and had saved up every penny I could for two months to be able to go to this concert. Afterwards I was in a daze, as if I had just seen Gods up on the stage.
This was the only time I ever got to hear David Lee Roth live and when I learnt last September that they were getting back together for another tour I was ecstatic. My husband has never been a Van Halen fan and here I had a chance to introduce him to their music.
I dug up old records from the attic and let them play an entire Saturday. I don't know if it was a mere action in stopping the music, or a true desire to hear Van Halen live, but he agreed to go to a concert with me, and to have an open mind about it.
Now however, this will most likely not happen. I cannot express how disappointed I am, as well as probably many other Van Halen fans. I don't know exactly what issues Eddie Van Halen has that has caused him to cancel the tour, but if it's because of Valerie Bertinelli he should have been able to stay above it.
Val Halen and David Lee Roth might be getting to old for this business. One day they are excited and thrilled about their tour, and then the next we learn that they are cancelling it. If nothing else, they at least owe it to their fans to give a decent statement about the reasons behind it. Going on tours is hard no doubt, but with the experience these guys have I would have thought that they were better than this.
For all the Van Halen fans out there, I hope that this was just a rumor. If Van Halen really is cancelling the tour then I feel cheated on as a fan.
