Will Celine Dion perform at the Vancouver 2010 Opening Ceremony? Will Circque Du Soleil perform? Will President Barack Obama attend the Vancouver 2010 Opening Ceremony? With less than a year until the Winter Olympics begin in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on February 12, 2010, planning is in full swing. However, many of the details are being kept secret so that the world may be delighted and surprised when they see the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

According to information available at the website Vancouver 2010, the Opening Ceremony will take place in Vancouver's 60,000-seat BC Place Stadium. Tickets, if you could get them, cost between $185 and $1,118. It is estimated that over 3 billion people will watch the televised Ceremonies. With a huge viewership like that, the Government of Canada wants to put on the best show possible. The budget, just for the Olympic Ceremonies events is $58.5 million.

The goal of the Opening Ceremony is to ensure that it "is truly representative of Canada's cultural diversity and linguistic duality, by highlighting the excellence and richness of the performances of leading Canadian artists." There are a few details emerging about the Opening Ceremony. It will be called "To Inspire the World", and volunteers are now being recruited, according to an article in the Vancouver Sun. Since they are recruiting 4,500 dancers, athletes and performers, the Ceremonies will be on a grand scale. The auditions will start in November. All volunteers will be required to sign a lengthy contract that prohibits saying anything about the ceremonies in BC Place.

Cirque du Soleil, a No-Show at the 2010 Opening Ceremony

Per CBC News, Montreal-based Cirque du Soleil will not produce the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 Games in Vancouver. The reason given was that the troupe cannot devote the time needed to produce an excellent show.
Prediction: Just because the Cirque won't be producing the show doesn't mean that the stylized, acrobatic style performers will not be exhibiting their moves. It is probably fair to say that Cirque du Soleil-like acrobats will be performing at the Ceremonies.

Celine Dion May Perform at the 2010 Opening Ceremony

Will Celine Dion perform? She did sing at the Beijing Summer Olympics in 2008.
Prediction: Yes, she will perform at the Opening and/or Closing Ceremonies. According to an article in The Vancouver Province, she will be performing at the Opening Ceremony. Other famous Canadian performers include Michael Buble, Bryan Adams, Anne Murray, Alanis Morissette, Shania Twain, and Avril Lavigne. No confirmations on the line up yet.

President Obama at the 2010 Opening Ceremony?

Will President Barack Obama attend the Vancouver 2010 Opening Ceremony?
Prediction: Yes. He will be one year into his Presidency and will be attending the Olympic Games in Canada. He was just visiting Canada last week, so we know he's able to travel there. His wife and kids will attend as well. Barack will go to his first live hockey game and his wife and kids will obtain coveted tickets to attend the women's ice skating Gold Medal Finals.
