Noone can really answer the "why" question sometimes in their life. Kowalski, the anti-hero, played by Barry Newman,
decides to take another route. He seems to have many "why" questions while trying to win a bet
delivering a super-charged Dodge Challenger to San Francisco from Colorado. The run to the finish line is a long
dusty trip. High speed chases, weird encounters, bad memories, and a little help from a local D.J., Super Soul,
starring, Cleavon Little. A blind radio jockey that deems it necessary to help Kowalski. Kowalski
begins to hear the D.J. speak directly to him over the air while running from the highway patrol. Rejected at first
Super Soul seems to win the trust of Kowalski causing a brutal attack on the radio station and himself. It should
also be noted that Cleavon Little went on to portray the sherrif of "Blazing Saddles".
A Young John Amos (Good Times) can be seen throughout the movie. The movie is one of curiosity. leaving the
viewer stranded on certain issues related to Kowalski. Thus asking more "why" questions and the desire to
learn
more about the character.
Dean Jagger plays a prospector in the desert who
helps
Kowalski in a troubled moment of the film. A Richard C. Sarafian film from 1971. The movie appears to show the
end at the beginning but follows with a shocking twist. Vanishing Point was running the roads before the Dukes,
The Bandit, and before Vin Diesel. It is definately worth watching especially if you are a "Car-guy". Peek inside
the culture of the era, music,
and the general themes of the early 1970's. Vanishing Point would be worth a remake for a new era and
perhaps
the new Dodge Challenger. This movie can be purchased on Ebay but I recommend buying it on DVD for the
updated quality to the film.
