As a long time resident of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma City metro area I have known of the great food in the area my whole life. However, until my wonderful wife entered my life I had never ventured into Van's Pig Stand or experienced their wonderful barbeque. I am a big fan of barbeque, but nobody had ever taken the time to tell me of the wonder of Van's Pig Stand.

So, what makes Van's better than the rest? What separates Van's from the hundreds and hundreds of other places in Oklahoma for good barbeque?

I have to start out with the signature dish that separates Van's from the rest, the "Vanized Potato". The name is fancy and of course reminds you of the Van's Pig Stand name every time you talk about it, but it is basically just a twice baked potato. However, it is the best twice baked potato you have had in your entire life.

Van's almost always has the Vanized Potato on hand, but beware if you stop by close to 8 p.m. or after you may not be able to get yours!

Another great and unique dish from Van's is the Grilled Turkey and Swiss on Rye sandwich. This is a regular for my Wife and me, but it may not be as healthy as it sounds. I like to take the sandwich and dip it in barbeque sauce.

Van's will also be able to please your sweet tooth with a nice, large slice of Carrot Cake. Look, I haven't always been a fan of Carrot Cake and the name itself reminded me too much of vegetables to waste a good desert on it. This cake is great and you will not regret ordering it.

Van's Pig Stand will also boast great atmosphere with the memorabilia on the walls and the down home country feel to the restaurant. This location is not as old and storied as the location in Shawnee, Oklahoma, but it is a tremendous option for those looking for great BBQ in Norman, Oklahoma.

Other great selections that I have tried from Van's are the polish sausage sandwich which was very good and the hot link sandwich was good as well. The burgers are nothing special, but will surely beat another trip to McDonalds or Burger King. The service is not impeccable, especially if you use the drive-thru, but overall this restaurant is recommended!
