Various Poems: Buzzer-beater in Basketball, Traffic Crawl, and Haiku

Oodles
Beating the buzzer

The sweat forms glittering beads on his head

The basketball bounces heavily in his stead

He glances at the shot clock winding down

Electric impulses and images make him drown

In a state of mind that triggers a change

A confidence that extends his muscles range

And drains away the fatigue to bring speed

He dashes and sprints around a players pick

He catches the fast laser pass in his palms

Bending his knees and ignoring all around

The madness, the chaos, the deafening sound

All dissipate within his mind and open eyes

Concentration and the memorizing of tries

Suddenly he's all alone on a still autumn day

In a cool gymnasium with a bright orange tray

And he holds the leather seams on the ball

And imagines the spin and the power on call

The shot clock reads a blurry red number

And digits quickly wind down like a tumbler

There are no barriers and he drains a swish

Traffic Temper

The little blue hatchback swims through chaos

A fish in the midst of a myriad of metal cars

It's so annoying and aggravating and tricky

To get where you want to get when you want

So obscenities are hurled at each other

And the slow procession of vehicles crawl

Like a trickle of seaweed on the shores

And then these lights abet the amelioration

The little cheap car treads through all chaos

Gradually going where it wants to go

Haiku

Electronic life

Venting to a busy world
