Various Ways for a Company to Outsource Business Functions

Companies outsource business functions to cut costs and save money on production. This is good for the company, but sometimes it can costs employees their jobs. Even businesses are feeling the financial crunch now. Owners or managers have to think of the company as a whole and do what is right for the business even though employees will be let go and jobs will be cut. If employees are near the companies that take in the outsourced work, they may be able to be hired on at the other companies.

The best way for a business to cut costs is outsourcing. Following are various ways a company can outsource business functions.

Manual Labor - Most companies make something or do something that requires skilled physical labor and people to run machines to make the product. For example, furniture companies, cabinet companies, companies that build products to sale all have employees that keep the machines running and put the products together. These companies can lay off the people that build the machines to do the various jobs and send the jobs to other companies. Thus, outsourcing and layoffs begin.

Bookkeeping - Office work can also be outsourced. Most accounting offices will do the work of a bookkeeper for a fraction of the cost of office help. The downside to office work being outsourced is the fact that the owner or whoever wants to look at the books, is at the mercy of another company and the financials are not updated on a daily basis.

Year End Accounting and Taxes - Year end accounting and the business's taxes can also be outsourced. The accounting firm that does the taxes will be able to do the year end accounting and start the business off fresh for the following year.

Payroll - Outsourcing payroll is financially sound to an employer. It does not cost much for a payroll service to write checks and do payroll reports. Payroll taxes should also be included in the service. Payroll outsourcing should cost a fraction of what having someone on hand 40 hours a week would cost. If the employee did more than payroll or only worked a few hours, using an employee for payroll in-house would be extremely beneficial to the company and the other employees.

Payroll for employees is extremely important to the employee. If there is a mistake in payroll the employee will want to get it fixed immediately. The downside to outsourcing payroll is the employees will most likely have to wait to get their pay fixed. This is not fair to the employee and he or she may become agitated enough to leave the company.

Inventory control - A dreaded task that can be outsourced is inventory. A company can be hired to take inventory in other businesses. If any job is going to be outsourced, inventory would be the best job to outsource. Inventory takes all the employees' time away from what they are supposed to be doing. If a company has a dishonest employee, he or she can add numbers to their inventory count. An outside company that does the inventory for a business may make mistakes, but at least the company will not have a dishonest employee covering up for themselves.
