Entertainment also varies depending on the regions people live. For example, people who live in a small town or village in Alaska do not have the same way of entertaining as people who live in the Caribbean islands or people who live in Africa.
Thanks to the advances of technology, the entertainment activities have changed and evolved quite a lot. If we go back in time, we will see that the types of entertainment our parents and grandparents used to have are not the same as we do now. Kids had a very different way of entertaining in those years and grew in another type of environment.
Who has not ever heard stories from their grandparents telling them the stories of the games and plays they had when they were kids? Who can imagine that those children from the years 1920 - 1930 could have fun without a game console, MP3 player or a TV set? It seems impossible that this could have happened, but indeed, this was the way kids grew up in those days!
Try to remember those days in our childhood where the entertainment was to go out with our friends and have fun just playing hide and seek or grab a ball and play on the streets. Those were days when we were not stuck at home in front of the TV trying to pass to the next level of the game or trying to save the earth from aliens. Those days entertainment for children involved more physical activity and we were happy just sweating running after a ball. We did not have mobile phones with games or ipods, but bikes, ropes and a ball. And our parents also had other types of entertainment. They did not spent hours in the internet, or had a home cinema system at home. If they wanted to watch a film, they went to the cinema and at home mum would sew or knit while dad would read the newspaper, a book or watch the football. Those were the entertainment activities you could see at home.
Nowadays we live at such fast pace, working, studying and taking care of our families, that time for relaxation is almost non existent, except when we are on holidays. So entertainment has become a great industry and it is always creating new things to offer to the public that relaxation they desperately need in this world that always seems to be in a rush. From small gadgets that will give you music or games to play during your daily journey to work to the satellite dishes installed at home so you can watch a TV program from any country in the world, technology has made the world of entertaining an endless source of "must haves".
There are basically two types of entertainment: the passive one and the active one. Within the passive group we can find a very long list of activities like reading, watching TV, going to the cinema and watch a film, going to the theatre and watch a play or musical, listening to music etc. These are a whole spectrum of activities that do not necessarily "burn calories" and provide time of relaxation and pleasure. On the other hand, the type of active entertainment is conformed by the activities that will involve physical effort, such as sports, training, dancing, traveling etc.
No matter what type of entertainment is our favorite, the important thing is to have time for ourselves to relax and have fun.
