Green olives range from small to colossal in size, and they are not all stuffed with pimentos. Some high-end delis and ethnic food stores sell fresh gourmet olives by the pound. They are also available in jars, but they are not a cheap snack. They are one of the most expensive relish tray additions available, but they do not have to cost a small fortune.
I recently purchased a half pound of Roquefort stuffed olives from a gourmet food market in Valparaiso Indiana. About one dozen of these tasty morsels were $9.99, and in hindsight I realized that I could have made them myself. Read on to discover ways to make gourmet stuffed olives, and create deliciously different appetizers, snacks, luncheon side dishes and more.
Gourmet Brie Cheese Stuffed Olives
Brie cheese is exceptionally rich and creamy, and it is my personal favorite. When trying to come up with gourmet stuffed olives I filled the colossal green variety with brie. They were far tastier than the expensive Roquefort variety I had purchased from the gourmet food market. They were part of a relish tray that I assembled for a party I held after Christmas for my family and friends, and not a single olive was left on the serving dish.
Pimento Cheese Stuffed Gourmet Olives
One of the most popular cheese spreads for sandwiches and crackers contains drained chopped pimentos, shredded cheddar and mayo. Pimento cheese spread is a southern favorite, but people all across the U.S. are discovering this tasty spread. The article entitled How to Make Easy Pimento Cheese Spread provides step-by-step instructions. Use it to fill colossal green olives for something highly unique and delicious.
Creamy Stuffed Olives and More
Ordinary cream or Neufchatel cheese can be used to make gourmet stuffed olives, but flavored cream cheese is a better choice. Use a favorite blend of creamy cheese and other ingredients to make gourmet stuffed olives. A combination of cream cheese, horseradish sauce and crumbled bacon is a tasty mixture, but it is just one of countless options.
Choose your favorite spreads to make delicious gourmet stuffed olives for far less than those sold in delis and high-end food markets. Other favorites can be used as well. Slices of canned mushroom, mini pearl onions, port wine spread and even pickled peppers of various varieties can be used to make tasty gourmet stuffed olives for snacks, mealtime or any occasion.
