When you follow vastu, please do not expect results immediately.
On an average it takes 5-6 weeks for benefits to trickle down.
Some handy and very important Vastu Tips:-

•The front door of the house is represented by Rahu, and the
exit or the rear door by Ketu. The front and the rear doors of the
house should never be in a straight line nor should they have
identical dimensions. A large entrance ensures large inflow of
wealth, while a small exit prevents its outflow. In a majority of
houses, the door sizes are the same. If your rear door is large,
stick a copper strip running across the width of the door three
to four inches below. Also ensure that no shadow falls on the main
and the rear door, if this is unavoidable, install a light above
the door.

* The first thing that one sees on entering a house is of great
importance. Some homes have a bathroom directly in front of their
main entry, causing illness. So keep the main door closed at all
times or hang a painting on the door to divert the Chi elsewhere.
Houses with kitchen right in front may focus too much on food,
beds at the entrance cause lethargy.

•In Feng shui they say that the building is situated on the tail of
the dragon. The term originates from the school of feng shui who
placed great emphasis on the shape of the shape of the mountains
and positioning of the water bodies in selecting a site, with the
compass taking second place. The dragon, the tiger, the phoenix
and the turtle symbolised nature. The dragon is associated with
raised land -be it mountains or hills.

•Pets are a great source of positive vibrations and add energy to
dormant environments. As per feng shui norms, fish, when placed in
homes or offices, is supposed to attract wealth and success. The
general position for keeping fish in a house is near the entrance
and the usual combination is that of eight golden and one black,
in a water feature in the southeastern parts of the building. When
placed near the front door they should be positioned towards the
left of the door and not to the right. Even pools can be used to
bring in beneficial feng shui as they provide a natural environment
However if one has problems of maintenance, an image of fish works
as well and serves as an enhancer. There is also an old belief
that fish dying does not portend bad times as they absorb negativity.
Similarly other animals have different associations- a bat denotes
luck, a bear protection, a crane health, an elephant wisdom, horse
recognition and the lion authority and magnificence.

•Mirrors are often viewed as objects of reflection. Most people
spend a few minutes a day in front of the mirror, while others like
to admire themselves and spend much more time in the process.
According to vastu it's not the time, but what you see that is more
important.

First of all, your reflection should be a true image and not a
distorted one, secondly, it should be in a full-length mirror
because the elemental representation in your body is Feet to Knees:
Earth, Knees to thigh: Water, Thighs to naval: Fire, naval to heart
: Air and Heart to head: Space.

It is of prime importance to you see your complete image, if you
constantly view your upper half or only your face the lower elements
get neglected which manifests as instability or lack of finances.
Its been observed that almost all the successful people have a full
length mirror in their closets or bedrooms.

Last but not the least, NEVER SEE YOURSELF IN A CRACKED MIRROR as
that is bound to create trouble.

* To beef up your security, make sure the security guard faces East
or North, with the placement of his room or chair conforming to the
above. Since the placement of a guardroom is determined by the
direction of the entrance to the premises, it is important to provide
the correct view to the person on duty. This will ensure loyalty with
a sense of responsibility. The cost of alteration of the guardroom
would be negligible compared to the compounded losses.

•Feng Shui lays great stress on the entry of the house. The hardware
of the front door should never be rusted and the entry point should
not squeak. For the Chi to enter the entrance should be well lit. The
main door should be normally be painted a shade slightly different.
Painting the main door a different colour from the rest of the house
gives the door more importance than all the other exterior details of
the house. If the door faces east paint it green, black or red; south
facing doors should be green, red or yellow/earthy tones; west-facing
doors are ideally yellow, grey or blue-black; north-facing doors are
grey, blue-black, or green.

•Placing a bottle of Honey in the guest room ensures that the guests
do not interfere in the matters of the house and also do not dominate
the members of the house.

•Make optimum use of your lucky colour, days and dates. For those born
on 1,10,19,28, lucky day is Sunday. For birth dates 2,11,20,29,its
Monday, for 3,12,21,30 its Thursday, for birth dates 4,13,22,31 it is
Sunday evening for 5,14,23, its Friday, for 7,16,25, its Monday
afternoon, for 8,17,26, its Saturday and for 9,18.27, its Tuesday.

•It is known that a toilet in the northeast corner of the house creates
innumerable problems; a kitchen in this corner too affects the health
of inmates, especially when the gas stove happens to be in the extreme
corner. In houses where the main directions happen to be along the
corners similar discomfort shall manifest if kitchen comes along the
northeast wall of the house. The traditional school of vaastu would
recommend shifting the kitchen to the southeast quadrant, which belongs
to the element of fire. Simple as it may sound, this is an impractical
suggestion for all those living in rented accommodation and for others,
it might be an expensive proposition. This can be avoided by harnessing
the fire element- burn a candle for 6 hours a day in the southeast zone
of the house. Secondly, avoid using black colour in the kitchen and
finally, add a tinge of red in your kitchen irrespective of the location.

•The colours that you wear while tying the knot will always help in
resolving any relationship issue between you and your spouse throughout
your life, because these colours are in the foundation of your marriage.
Those wanting to liven up their relationships should wear Red or white
for females and black or off-white for males, simultaneously To improve
the harmony in your home, locate the centre point of your home. If it is
a closet or a storage area, declutter it, sort things out, and throw
away the extrageneous and light some incense there. If it is a lobby or
a room, hang a crystal there with a clear thread to charge the space
and add different facets to your home. Illuminating the central portion
of your home with candles also adds positive vibrations to your home.
